Looking for food/drink suggestions. Asked a girl out for the first time since my divorce (so, really, I haven't been on a "first date" in damn near a decade). Love places like National on 10th due to drink selection, but I'd like better food. Does this exist?

Pubs are a bit noisy for talking, n'est pas?

Try a wine bar? Wine Bar Kensington. Great food.

Raw Bar has great cocktails and food.

I've been twice and really enjoyed both meals! If you have the time, the 5 course "improv" meal is definitely worth it.

Brilliant. Raw bar is exactly what I'm looking for.
Totally forgot about having to talk. After all these years, I've been classically conditioned to think that I have to buy things to get some. Talking will be a nice change of pace.

I was there a few weeks ago. Really enjoyed it. Their main focus is the improv. It's either a 3 or 5 course meal, where you don't know what you're getting until it arrives. My friend and I enjoyed all the courses. The dessert featured root beer, which I don't like, but there were two parts to it, so I just left the root beer part on my plate. Everything else was great!

The menu is pretty small if you don't go the improv thing but everything I saw going to other tables looked good.

Hope you enjoy it.

Rule of thumb - don't bring a date to places that have TVs.

Finally went to Longview Steakhouse recently... ya, probably one of the best steaks I've ever had and would definitely recommend the restaurant. That said, reservations still need to be made months in advance and one person in your group obviously wont be able to have any drinks since you cant exactly get a cab home. Worth visiting at least once though.

I remember just popping in last summer and had no problems getting a seat (mind you it late afternoon and just me, but I did get a 4 person table).

Great steak though. Although the best steak I've had was still at Vintage.

Disclaimer - I'm not just saying this because I'm one of the partners in the business but the food is excellent and if you are looking for a unique place to take a date this is it. It's inside the oldest house in Airdrie built in 1905.

First & Vine in Airdrie, is new wine bar and restaurant that just opened last month. If you are a foodie, our chef Mike Frayne worked for Mike Noble (chef of the year in Calgary 2016 & 2015). Chef Frayne served as executive sous for the Nash restaurant the past 3 years and worked at Notable for 4 years. It’s a tapas bar with a great cozy atmosphere. The best thing we have prosecco on tap which is a way to a woman's heart lol and we don't have any TV's either I would like to think you would score some big points by taking your date here.

I think we are going to pass, but if anyone is interested, got this in the email from Alloy:

On November 17th Chef Rogelio will be teaming up with Kenny Kaechele of Workshop Kitchen as well as Top Chef Canada's Rich Francis of Saskatoon's 7th Fire Restaurant.
This amazing culinary event, 6 courses paired with wines, will take place at WorkShop Kitchen and is $175 per person. Proceeds of the event will be donated to Sunrise Native Addiction Society.

The Latin restaurant on 19th St NW is gone - replaced by Lotus Indian restaurant.

Sabroso on 14th St SW is gone too. That location is bad luck.

Hexagon cafe in Kensington would good a first date. Serve alcohol. It's unique and playing game help awkward conversation flow through a first date

Blue House served great food and I enjoyed their ambiance but I think it was their location that did them in. We just never found ourselves in that part of town, and this is from somebody who lives in the NW. My wife and I never had any reason to go down to the Brentwood/Collingwood area on our date nights.

Curious if anyone has had a chance to try the new BBQ place outside Okotoks (north side). Man did that ever go up fast as when I drove by recently it was open.

Had a nice meal at Fleur De Sel last Friday. Being a long weekend, it was not that busy and we had great service. Prices are reasonable, food and wine were great. Not a stuffy French restaurant. They played Leonard Cohen for a large part of the evening.

Only negative - two very loud drunk guys arrived mid-way through our meal. They ordered a bottle of red wine, and carried on in an obnoxious way. One dude began to fall asleep at the table, then went outside to puke all over the tree out front. He did not return.
