As @EdmontonJack first noted, Todd Nelson is the coach of record for Oilers. Officially, he is interim head coach.

So Nelson gets the Losses on his records despite MacT being the Head Coach..... Bold

Eakins is a puppet. He actually seems like a nice guy but I just feel bad for the guy now. Has no heart that presser was terrible.

I feel so bad for Todd Nelson. Craig MacTavish undercut him before the guy ever set foot behind the bench.

Nelson should have told MacT that he was happy in Oklahoma, because this disastrous stint behind the Oilers bench will submarine his future NHL prospects just like it did to Eakins and every other Oiler Head Coach but Nelson doesnt have a 4 year Golden Parachute or 80s Oilers Cup ring to soften his landing.

That whole team is clownshoes amateur hour.

I don't understand why Nelson would take this job. Chances are he won't be able to turn this mess around, at some point Katz will be forced to crush Lowe and Mac-T and everyone else and the new management team will want his own guy behind the bench.

He's basically being set up to fail. Lets hope that he doesn't spend too much money moving his stuff to Edmonton.

File this under the What it's Worth category... But former NHL'er Jeff O'Neil was on Vancouver radio today saying the higher ups on the Oilers, Lowe and Mactavish, don't even have end of the year performance reviews. They're done for players, done for the coaching staff.. But those two are just let off the hook.

Also said he'd rather have mumps than coach the Oilers.

They could in the 80s. What more could the Oilers want?

I was thinking the same thing about Nelson. So easy for him to be thrown under the bus. He can't come to the team fresh with his own direction as he will be standing behind MacT. If/when they bump heads in front the players and MacT pulls rank, Nelson is undermined and opens the door for the players to ignore a different suit and tie behind them. They can easily shop around for a new head coach with NHL experience if the Oilers keep the dumpster fire burning (they will). The only way to keep his job is to get wins. So unless MacT makes some bold moves (he won't) I don't see how he can even have a chance. What a disaster.

Because the Oilers are no longer paying him to do his old job. It’s either accept the so-called promotion or be fired.

His press conference sounded like a thank you to the org for firing him.

That’s perfect, since that’s also how the players handle it.

They are showing a lot of consistency throughout the organization in that regard.
