He had a dollar amount (4.5?) and term (3 years?) he wanted. Only a handful of teams were willing and able to pay him that amount. He signed with the one he thought had the best team.

A much lower offer from Chicago or LA (if it was on the table) hardly guarantees a Cup win next year. Why not take the long term deal with much more cash from a rising team that has lots of potential? Without really caring whether Iggy wins a Cup or not, I think he and his agent made the smart choice.
I disagree. An already super talented Hawks team adding B. Richards and Iginla in the off season. The Kings nor anyone else would not stand a chance.

That's the problem though. The Hawks are already super talented on forward... so adding Iginla would just remove one of the already talented players they have in that spot. I don't see how that would benefit the Hawks...

Sharp Toews Kane
Saad Richards Hossa
Teravainen Shaw Versteeg
Bickell Kruger Hartman

*obviously not exact lines*

I guess you could throw Iginla into that 3rd line RW spot, and bump Versteeg. I don't think that improves the Hawks much though, as Iggy's defence IMO is lacking, and he's not going to provide the necessary offence to off-set that from the 3rd line.

Iginla made a great choice in the Avs. I really don't understand why it's viewed negatively... They're one of the youngest teams in the league, won their division last year (arguably the toughest division in the league), and have the best Center depth in the league as well. How is it he won't have a chance at a Cup with them? I'm confused.

Does anybody maybe think that it may have caused problems for iginla to move the family 3x in 3yrs?

Maybe term had more to do with family than greed? Maybe Pittsburg/boston/LA/Chicago wouldn't offer term, and Colorado did. And, well, I'm no fortune teller, but, Colorado is gonna be in the playoffs the next 3yrs, Iginla has a relationship with Sakic and Roy an they have as good of a shot as anybody!

4th in the league in +/-. Defense lacking? Definitely not an outlier on a solid defensive team.
