Why would the alert be canceled if they have not been found? Or perhaps they know what happened to them but haven't found them?

5-year-old, grandparents disappear from Calgary home
Pure speculation on my part, but I'm thinking that after he was released on bail, the police kept him under close surveillance and he tried to cover his tracks more. Which led them straight to them.
I hope that they're not all dead, especially the boy, but I just can't see anything positive out of today's developments.
I'm afraid that this press conference is going to be troubling. God damn.

Calgary Police news release
The Calgary Police Service has arrested a man in relation to the disappearance of three people from a Parkhill residence two weeks ago. As charges have not yet been laid, the man cannot be identified.
The Amber Alert for Nathan O’Brien and Kathryn and Alvin Liknes has been discontinued.
Calgary Police Chief Rick Hanson will be available to speak to the media at 1 p.m. today, Monday, July 14, 2014
