Linden is probably the only person affiliated with the Canucks organization past or present that I actually like. Too bad he didn't cut ties with that no good team. Best case scenario is he gets a giant contract and pulls chute after a season after realizing the Canucks are doomed to hockey purgatory and takes a bunch of Aquilini money with him. Oh and makes a bunch of "rookie mistakes" to hamstring that team for the foreseeable future.

I think this puts the Canucks organization in a very tough spot. In the short term this is a good move as I'm sure it will appease the fan base somewhat. But what happens if the club continues to fall and he makes or OKs a few bad moves? Now you're forced to oust the Golden Boy. Potential for some big backlash there.
Good move splitting the Pres/GM duties though. Too much work now with the cap and all the extra scouting that goes on.

Fair enough hopefully this means they won't be looking at all the same gm candidates as us. We seem to be looking for an up and comer who could use some tutelage they could use someone with a lot more experience.

Impossible. Failure is ingrained in them. I wish nothing but failure and irrelevance to the Vancouver Canucks.

But that was ten years ago now, and what has he done since then? Hock glasses and do voice over cameos for some kid shows.
Team needs an experienced GM or Assistant GM coming in as our GM to balance this and help guide Linden.

The biggest thing Linden has over many ex-players, is business experience. He has done work in the real estate development industry, and I'm sure several others. Obviously that doesn't translate exactly to hockey, but I think he'll be able to blend hockey sense with business sense.

For all the Feaster bashing in this thread, there was one major point missed. If Feaster wasn't GM our head coach would be Crawford not Hartley.

I am not of the mind that it is a move that will ultimately fail, but I think they need to make a smart choice with who they turn to be GM. As in, don't grab another former player (or player-agent) with no experience. Get someone who has at least been working as an assistant for some time.

Maybe he would?
Also John Davidson didn't have any front office experience before being named president of the Blues, he did a pretty good job.

RT @DarrenDreger: Told the Canucks did not speak with Bob Nicholson. His name will surface in NHL based on experience and availability. Rest is his priority.

Linden's words were careful: "The Canucks owners have not approached me" or something to that effect. Probably true. The owners had someone acting on their behalf.

Agreed. I would love to see Jim Benning.

Well he seems to have learned how to use a technicality to tell an outright lie, so he has picked up some GM qualifications it seems.
