What I really dislike about Sportsnet lately is how they cut away right after the game, like to Oil Change last game or when the World Series was on. The people that are watching it are already watching it on another channel.

What's another 5 minutes to do a proper wrap up?

It's not a Kerr specific point, but I hate when people in sports refer to a singular player in the plural.

"It's going to take the Monahans, Svens and Gios on the team to get going."

There aren't any players similar to these guys, so don't say the Monahans. Say Monahan needs to get going, if that was the case. If they said the fourth liners or top players or whatever, I'd understand.

I hate Kerr when he yells "where is it"? It's your job to know where it is. Do you need the Fox puck with the glow light?

I live in the States now so I got Gamcenter. When the internet doesn't work, I would stream 960 on my phone and just listen to Pete call the game. I really don't feel that I am losing too much from the action when listening to Pete. This year with Loubo on the color, it made the "radio" games that much better.

I don't mind Kerr. I loved it whenever he delivers the "he shoots -- he scores" line. He was so excited when Monahan scored in OT the other day. It was awesome! I do think he is getting better.

Agreed, especially after a W. Can't we just cuddle?

Kerr must be the bestest because he can tell me what's happened before I've seen it.

Not blaming Kerr for this but it makes the broadcast look bush league.

The regional TSN channels have a live post game with full coach press conference, player interviews etc

The one that absolutely drives me up the wall is whenever on TV or in the press they say..

"Flames are taking on the Wild at Scotiabank Saddledome" without the "the".

You would never say "Flames are taking on the Wild at Saddledome", or "Leafs at Air Canada Centre" or "Rebels taking on Hitmen at Centrium", or "Stamps play Argos at Rogers Centre".

I don't know what it is, you could say "Stamps playing the Esks at the McMahon/Commonwealth Stadium".

Maybe the more grammar savy people on the board could elaborate on when to use "the" when referring to a place.

What you describe as PBP is not what I hear Kerr or other hockey PBP folks tell me. They tend to describe what's happening on the ice in real time. Funny you mention field, because if you listen to an NFL or MLB broadcast - i think you'll realize those PBP folks do not describe the play as it unfolds in real time - they analyze it at the end of the play.

Stop twisting that knife. I would do backflips if TSN could get their hands on the rights for the Flames broadcasts. I am stunned that Calgary Flames ownership and management could actually be satisfied with the 3rd world product Rogers puts out but it appears they just may be.

I watched the game last night on an internet feed while at work with a router cutting aluminium in my left ear, no sound.

Was still more enjoyable than listening to Kerr and Simmer

If I was going to complain about someone on the Sportsnet broadcasting team it wouldn't be Mr. Kerr, no, it would most definitely have to be Mr. Simmer. I hate to rag on the guy as he seems like an extremely nice man, but by god does he bring nothing to the telecast. Rob seems to have much more insight then he does with regards to the in's and outs of the game, Charley's comments are always the same, canned cookie cutter responses he trots out every game. His voice is monotone and boring and for some reason he never wants to relate to his own experience as a player, you'd never even know the guy even played in the league if Rob wasn't always mentioning him being a part of the "famous triple crown line".

It would be nice if they could get a younger ex-player to take over in that role, someone with some personality and someone who has an intimate understand of how the game is played today, not how it was played 30 years ago. And if that guy happened to be an ex-Flame, I wouldn't mind that either. Although I'm guessing it's easier said then done to get a even somewhat well known ex-player for the kind of $$ Sportsnet is likely paying.
Agree re: Simmer. How about Rhett Warrener? He's already in the family and seems to enjoy doing the Fan stuff even though he doesn't need the money.

It's truly mind bottling. They want to compete with TSN and they do things like this? They should be embarrassed.

I think you are overestimating them here. They don't aspire to put out a quality product like TSN. TSN regularly doubles Sportsnet ratings around the country. Rogers only has Sportsnet because Bell has TSN as it's more a way to get their brand out there. Think quantity not quality. It's not about the product with Rogers and more about whatever Bell can do they can do. It's a weird rivalry those companies as if one has a sports channel the other has to no different to TSN getting into the sports radio business which is the lone place Rogers has an advantage in the Fan 590.

People's continued insistence on using the phrase "mind bottling" is way more annoying than anything Kerr does, and I can't stand Kerr!
