I keep getting text messages from my wife via email rather than through my phone, though not all the time. Annoying.

Kind of old news now, but it's interesting to see that people have looked into the IMEI numbers for Nexus 4s to estimate the sales numbers and they have it at an abysmally low 400K neighborhood in the first 6 weeks of its release.
http://www.theverge.com/2013/1/3/383...-sales-at-370k
Obviously it's more due to supply than soft demand, but the S3 sold that many in about 2 days and the iPhone 5 sold 12-15 times that in its first weekend.
I love my Nexus 4, but I can't help but marvel at just how badly Google has handled the release of what it sees as its flagship phone.

I'm not sure if it's Google's fault of LGs fault. LG is saying that Google didn't order anywhere near enough of them. Google is saying that LG is not delivering on orders and that shipments are "sporadic". I tend to think this is LG's problem not so much as Google's at this point. Think about it, if Google's been able to get pre-orders from the play store they know the rough demand since sales have started and would have increased orders from LG accordingly.
Internals for the Optimus G are near identical to the point where you can convert an Optimus G to a Nexus 4 and there are no supply problems there. LG is probably just producing more of what makes them more money at this point.

^ It kind of baffles me to hear them say they were surprised by the level of demand. At least I thought I read them admit that somewhere. I don't understand why they keep looking at it as a developer phone.
I still am yet to buy an android phone, and the main reason is that I don't want the os skinned over by any manufacturer. I came close to waiting for the Nexus 4 over the iPhone 5, but figured I'd wait until LTE was supported on a Nexus phone. I'm sure there's a lot of people like me who prefer the stock Google experience. They really should have anticipated that a bit more.

there has been no problems at all with the samsung s3. besides with android you take out what you don't want.
It took me almost 2 god damn hours to update my wife's phone in itunes last nite. and then none of the apps transferred over. Product of satan that is.

Google has gotten a lot better at rolling up updates to Android but their retail experience still leaves plenty to be desired. They learned some lessons from the Nexus 7 and hopefully they've learned a lot more from the Nexus 4. Not doing preorders and just sending out an e-mail and random times was so frustrating. I love the price, I love the direct from Google sales but if you can't actually get this amazing phone what's the point.

Google is marketing and selling the phone under their name, so it really falls at their feet. If LG can't (or isn't willing to) produce more than a few hundred thousand phones over several months then Google shouldn't have even considered partnering with them for a flagship device. I'd cut them some slack if they'd put out a few million phones, but when their total sales after 6 weeks are apparently equivalent to about 2 days of the S3's sales and about 5 hours of iPhone 5 sales at release, then it's pretty clear there's something majorly wrong with their logistics.
I mean, they can't even maintain stock of the bumper case for the thing and whatever happened to the wireless charger they were showing off? I still haven't heard anything about the price or when (or even if) it'll get released.
I'm glad they released it because it's a great phone for a hell of a price, but the whole thing has been a mess since day 1. I'm just glad I was able to get one early because I definitely would've moved on to something else by now.

Galaxy Nexus had an LTE version and can be found for cheap if you shop around. Still a good phone that was somewhat underrated.

Yeah, the main thing for me was that I wanted to future-proof a bit. I used my 3GS for 3 years, and I don't want to be forced into switching early unless I want to. Plus I had a carrier upgrade, so I decided to get a phone with the best re-sale value.
I have an android tablet, and would definitely switch to android for my phone. But I will probably wait until there's a new phone that brings everything to the table for me.

Still loving my 7 as well, and am considering ordering a 10 (when one actually becomes available...).

Absolutely Google has a huge problem not investigating the production capacity of LG and awarding LG the contract to produce the Nexus 4s. Google has always been technology first and that probably factors into their lack of foresight with production logistics.
There is no way Google didn't try to adjust the number of orders after the initial rush from people to purchase the phone. There is not shortage on supply of LG Optimus G (which is identical save for a couple of LTE amplifiers) and they have shipped million+ of units to the Nexus's hundreds of thousands. That really points to a problem with LG hoarding supply for the Optimus G. In LG's view, they already have the knowledge transfer from Gooogle by participating in the Nexus program but they make better margins on the Optimus G. I doubt it's a capacity thing on LG's part. Google did a ####ty job estimating demand without a doubt, but not being able to ramp up and meet demand is LG's fault. Hopefully we don't see another LG Nexus phone and we get something from Moto, Samsung, Sony or HTC instead.

Last time they went on sale (December 2nd IIRC) they last for well over two hours, I'd hope/think Google had enough stock pilled up this time that they it should last for a little while longer.
