I don't know...30? I read somewhere that LTE can be as fast as 150.

Just FYI, apparently confirmed over at XDA:
Quote:
AOSP ROM, of which Slim is one, say 4G for LTE.

Yes it is LTE. Slim shows 3G for HSPA, and 4G for LTE.

Running Slim with Ktoonz kernel and this phone flies! I loved my Nexus but damn this is a nice phone. Screen is great. Thought I would hate the hardware key but I have no issues with it.
Think I might have to load Ubuntu on the nexus since this is running for so well.

Was there something wrong with the kernel in Slim itself?

The kernel that Slim has is just fine.
Similar to how Slim puts an effort into developing an amazing ROM, some people put as much effort into developing an amazing kernel.
Some are better, but to me the difference isn't that big. Slim usually incorporates the features from the better kernels anyways into his ROM.

Thanks dude. How do I do that by the way? I'm sure it's a noob question, but even the dude at the Bell kiosk couldn't figure it out.

1. Go to Settings
2. Click on More... under Wireless and Networks
3. Tap on Mobile Networks
4. Tap on Network Mode.
5. Choose one of the options that does not include LTE (but make sure it's not GSM only or you won't even have 3g).

I feel like I haven't fully nerded out on this phone yet. Anyone have any suggestions for cool things you can make this thing do that the average person might not know?

To be fair, the guy at the Bell kiosk knows about as much as the "genius" at the apple store so...

Nothing really, just something else to play/tweak with. I'm a crack flasher. I will get a stable ROM, usually Slim and make a nandroid of it and then flash two or three ROM's a day. From wipe to work I can set a phone up in 5 or 10 minutes just the way I want it.

One thing I'm not a fan of in this Slim Beam ROM is when sending a new text message. You have to type the first letter or so of the name you want to send to in order to get a pop up. I'm used to being able to see a list of everyone and choosing that way. Unless I'm missing an option somewhere.

I use a different messaging app. Slim just uses the default Android messaging app.

Just had to say thanks again, I made the switch early yesterday and its seriously been night and day different. Yesterday was the first time in weeks where I actually wasn't trying to ration out my phone playing time the way people used to ration out daytime minutes a decade ago.
Tomorrow will be the real test, as I've been home for 90% of the time on my own wi-fi. But even with that, I've noticed a substantial change in battery consumption, and you're right its still very fast. Niceee

Are you on stock? I don't have much problem with my battery lasting all day when I use LTE. Perhaps my ROM optimizes it a lot better.

Ya just stock. I've had the phone since Jesusmas and it was fine at first. But something happened in the last month or so where thr battery just went to crap. And after reading through this thread, it seems to be a common problem.

My wife in on stock and leaves LTE on and doesn't have a problem making it all day. Me thinks you have an app eating battery.

So a while back I used to the Toolkit to root my S3 and then installed the stock 4.2.2 ROM (which wasn't officially released). It seems to have unrooted by device and I'm not sure how to root it again because the Toolkit only offers support up to 4.2.1. Any ideas?
EDIT: Figured it out using CF-Root.

There is an easy selector button in the settings of the messaging app. Check that and it will add a + to the right of the line you enter the contact in, click it and it will have a drop down of names.

Thanks Gala. I didn't have it on, but even when I selected it to be on, I have the Real Dark Slim on and it is a little hidden in the black background. Found it though. Nice to have that option as well as typing the first letter of a contact name.
