My buddy used one back before he bought an Apple TV. It worked pretty well, I'd consider picking one up.

Why not buy an Apple TV for ~$50 more?

I have used both the HDMI and VGA adapters with the new iPad, and both of them work perfectly. We just came back from 10 days in Florida and my son used the iPad and Netflix connected to a TV via HDMI every day without any problems at all. He also watched a bunch of movies with AvPlayer HD as well. The ability to charge the iPad while watching a movie is awesome.

I purchased the actual Apple adapter for like $40 or so.

I appologize if this has been asked a million times but is there anyway to watch Flash on this thing? Can't seem to watch any TSN or NHL videos on it.

Nope, but both of those providers have apps that generally work better than their flash based websites anyway. Just search the app store.

There is also an app called skyfire that serves up flash video, but in my limited experience it takes far too long for a video to start and when it does the quality is pretty low.

The problem is that people who post links on here, twitter or whereever don't open up the app they open up the web browser. Just like when people post the direct video on here having the app doesn't help.

Just kinda sucks when someone posts a video and then you have to open up an app and start searching for it. It's really too bad they don't have a way that allows you to click the link/video and it opens up the app with the correct video.

I find I'm putting the ipad down and going to my laptop/computer to just watch the video. Kinda makes me regret the purchase.

Hopefully this isn't considered spam, I figured I'd post it here in case someone is considering getting a smart cover and wants to save some money.

So I want to upgrade our iPad2's to the new iPad and give the iPad2's to my kids. I do have our iPad back-up to iCloud. How does one update the new iPad with the data from my iPad2? My wife would be very upset if you lost her angry birds save logs.

when setting up the new iPad you can restore from iCloud backup. Just make sure under settings->icloud->backup that angry birds is saved

You do realize that the Apple TV is basically the size of a hockey puck, right?

It also requires a Wi-Fi network when travelling, which isn't always there (or free!). The HDMI adapter has its uses.

Yes. However, I don't always have WiFi access...

Oops. Beat to it.

I can't imagine you'd want to rely on public hotel wifi to stream high quality HD video.

Which is why you'd turn on wifi sharing on the iPad, and join the AppleTV to your own private wifi network.

You don't need wifi to use the iPad with the AppleTV, it's all baked in and self contained.

You can also, just as an FYI, restore any iOS device backup to any other device. So if you were, hypothetically, upgrading from an iPod Touch to an iPad, you can do a restore and bring all your settings, accounts, and apps across. Some of the apps might not be iPad optimized (ie. they might not be universal), but they'd all be there.

Can that work on Wifi-only iPads?
