I'm going to still side with Sidney Crosby's Hat and say that Phoenix stays and we see Atlanta departing to greener pastures.

IMO, it's a shame that Atlanta didn't work out again, but having a bad product for 10 years, star players that leave for greener pastures and a ownership team that never wanted the franchise in the beginning, just means it's time to cut the ties and run.

Even though it's been really quite on the Atlanta front, it sounds like this will be a very quiet dump and run. It sounds like the current ownership mess has no interest in keeping the team and if a reasonable offer comes in that team is going to be out of there.

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...ested-parties/

Sure they are saying the right things, but by passing the buck to Bettman, they are forcing him to make a decision. I don't think the owners are at all interested in owning another losing team for another season.

Just because someone is interested means there's maybe a 10% chance it will actually go through. Much like the Phoenix situation, I'll wait for the official press release that the sale is complete for Atlanta before counting it out.
You can go back 31 years to the Flames situation. On Google, you can search the archived newspapers from that time period, and when the rumours first broke that a group of Calgary businessmen were interested in buying the Flames, there were 2 or 3 groups looking at buying the team to keep them in Atlanta, but as we all know, nothing ever came of those offers.

31 years ago, we didn't have an idiot like Bettman in charge.

Not really. Ziegler simply didn't care. He wasn't a guy who would really fight for anyone, and often simply disappeared rather than deal with league issues. It is part of the reason why he posted his forced resignation following the 1992 strike.

Also, on a completely irrelevant tangent, I found this amusing:

The more things change, the more they stay the same...

Just based on the current roaster I'd rather see Atlanta move to the 'peg, although that's 100% based on Dustin Byfuglien and his awesome taunting of nucks fans: http://gifaday.blogspot.com/2010/05/...nuck-fans.html

Sure he is, he only brags when he's right. Like a problem gambler, you never hear about the losses only the wins.

Which allowed things to unfold as they should. Fighting a losing battle when the outcome is a foregone conclusion, is idiotic in my book.

I'm not defending Zeigler of course,
but sometimes the best course
is to do nothing or you end up beating a dead horse.

This thing may be over, but not the way I expected.

http://goldwaterinstitute.org/article/5850

I might be $100 poorer by the end of the week. This was NOT the expected response by those involved.

I still think that they'll somehow, someway find a way to keep the team in Phoenix. Otherwise, the league may be owning the Thrashers next season.

So what's Hulsizer's last resort? Guarantee another 35 million in bonds to fill out the whole of them?

(Jets meter getting close to the halfway point now)

The GI is only interested in one outcome, the taxpayers not being involved in this at all.

From Goldwater's letter, it seems that unless he guarantees the entire thing PLUS interest ($300+ million) they won't be happy. However, given McCain's endorsement it could turn into a political pissing war before it's all said and done.

Funny that the "Jet Meter" actually dropped three spots earlier today and then was raised five spots after this news came out.

Default Wow

Not what I expected at all

This will turn into a pissing match on several fronts, unless Hulsizer pulls another rabbit out of the hat or McCain brings GWI to heel, this is pretty much done.

GWI is going to get severely punished politically for this as well as the Diamondbacks as Kendricks wife is on the board. GWI may get donations from outside the state but the local Repubs on all levels will not take kindly to this at all. A lot of prestige was on the line to maintain being a 4 major sport venue and this will not be taken lightly by all manner of politicians. Kendricks better not be asking anyone for anything for the next several years.

A local sportscaster already brought up this potentially being viewed as somewhat cannibalistic as one sports team potentially feeding off the death of another and the outcome was not good. Diamondbacks are not doing too well as it stands and they do not want to give fans any reason to not attend their games.

Funny thing is they are already. Who is going to have to make up the money lost when the revenues come up short on 41+ nights at Westgate. The economic impact of the Coyotes leaving will be catastrophic.

You continue to be a shining example of why Winnipeg fans are very likely going to come out of this as loathed as Vancouver fans.
