Felt like bumping this thread. For those on the fence about quitting why not try tonight? Have your last smoke and see how you feel about it in the morning. Maybe you'll keep it up for a while. What do you have to lose?

What Happens To Your Body When You Quit Smoking

After 8 hours: the carbon monoxide levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal
After 48 hours: your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.
After 72 hours: your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.
After 2 weeks: your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.
After 3 to 9 months: coughing, wheezing and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%.
After 1 year: your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.
After 5 years: your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.
After 10 years: your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
After 15 years: your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

I sort of quit January 1st, I've been using an electronic cigarette since then. I don't miss standing outside in the cold or smelling terrible.

One week so far for me. I didn't tell people I was quitting this time, which seems to have made it easier on me. I'm also holed up in the middle of nowhere without access to cigarettes. I still feel like I want one, but I'm sure I'll get over it. I do feel less groggy in the mornings though which is nice.

Good for you all that quit. I did that years ago and I used the nicorette patch. It worked wonders. It gave me all the buzz I needed. I was vera skeptical at first, but after one day of use I was sold.

Didn't have e-digs then so I can't comment, but the one thing I liked about the patch was that I broke the addiction and habit at the same time. E-cigs only tackle the addiction.

Comming up on one month in a few days, my lung misses my flavored cigars!

Seriously though. I gave up cigs about 13 years ago and have been smoking cigars for about 10 but completely smoke free now. actually it wasn't even hard to quit them..shocked the hell out of me.

This bump made me realize I completely missed my 2 year mark on February 13, I'll take that as a good sign that I don't really think about it anymore.

So I quit smoking cigarettes back in December. I went on the patch for a bit until my electronic cigarettes showed up. Since then it was kind of a love/hate relationship with smoking and e-cigs. Once I figured out how the e-cigs deliver nicotine vs regular cigarettes it was an eye opener. If you are wanting to get off cigarettes but not really nicotine, i highly recommend e-cigs. I had a bit of a relapse at the beginning of feb due to personal reasons, but since then i haven't touched nor wanted to touch a cigarette.

Cool stary bra i know. Still, not smoking is awesome.

I own Cheap Smokes & Cigars in Calgary and we carry the joyetech line of e-cigarettes, e-rolls, e-juice (nothing with nicotine) and accessories and have received nothing but positive feedback on their product from our customers.

If anyone would like more info on the joyetech products, please ask away.

Well, I guess I can finally use this thread! Picked up an Evod2 on the weekend and since Saturday morning have smoked maybe 10 cigarettes rather than around 60. I have never been able to come close to quiting in the past. I tried some some cig a like e cigs around February but they were super frustrating to use. I'm fully on board with vaping and will be heading out to buy 2 more vaporizers after work.

Pritz97, you should really look into stocking e-juice with nic. The place I was at was packed to the rafters with quiters. Do you stock the cartomizer 510s?

I just quit again a couple weeks ago. I decided I wanted to start running, and the first run felt like it was going to rupture a lung, so I stopped smoking when I ran out the next day. Haven't smoked in two weeks, I'm still running 3-5x per week and started up some DDP Yoga. I feel pretty good.

Never quit cold turkey before, so I'm a little surprised it worked so easily this time for me.

Ok CP, wish me luck, gonna give this another rip!

Have the Champix waiting for me at the pharmacy. Worked out pretty good last time, made the quit part easy. The staying quit part is always a challenge. Think I lasted 10 months last time before tons of various pressure caused me to trip up.

Big difference this time is I'm actually looking forward to trying again where as last time I was scared about life without having a smoke.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaw!!!

Don't be disheartened if the Champix seems different or if you feel it may not work as well as the last time. From my experience, Champix the first time was so effective in the making the cigs repulsive etc., quit for a bit. Second time on Champix, didn't have same effect. I was worried I wouldn't be able to do it. Its been done, almost 4 months smoke free, I found it easier than the first time once quit day had arrived and I was able to ditch the Champix less than 2 weeks after I had stopped smoking. Good luck, you can do it!!

Nice to see this thread bumped. I quit about a year ago. Cold Turkey. I just couldn't stand to do it anymore.

Attitude is everything. If you are looking forward to quitting your mind is in the right place. Best of Luck.

Great piece of advice I learned in a smoking cessation continuing education program:

Don't beat yourself up if you make a mistake. It's a learning experience. What can you do to prevent it from happening again?

Having to witness my father pass away from years of his smoking and lung cancer this year, I support all those who are trying and had quit via various methods. My dad finally quit forcefully after suffering a heart attack and was ex-smoker for last 15 years, but cancer did surface later on.

From my research.
It takes on average about six tries before a person succeeds so keep on trying. Failure after failure should not deter, but is another step towards quitting.
If you have an urge to smoke, the urge lasts about 20-30 seconds. During that time, distract yourself, take a deep breath, drink water, or doodle something on a paper so you can pass that 20-30 seconds.
Think about that $4 grand or so you'll save and spend it on a hot winter vacation.
Pick up a bottle or two of Fabreeze and de-smoke all your clothes, carpet, car, etc. when starting out to quit.
Let your co-workers and family and friends know you are trying to quit so that they can support you at times of weakness.
Start to exercise as weight gain of about 5 lbs is expected with smoking cessation (still the benefit will outweigh the crap you are inhaling).
