Cool!
My UXM run only goes from 288-396 or so. Then to the mid 400s via trades. X-Men runs about the same timeline, from 1-114 or so. Then trades after that to about 210.

After reading a lot of superhero stuff from the big 2 recently, I’ve been focusing on more serious stuff recently.
I read all 17 volumes of Astro City and loved it.
Finished the last 6 volumes of Fables, which I liked even better, and may be one of the best series I’ve ever read.
The Good Asian was awesome pulp noir about a 50s detective in Chinatown in SF.
And the Many Deaths of Laila Star, a neat limited series about life, death, resurrection and other weird stuff.
I’m nearly caught up on Lazarus. One of my favourite series ever. Addictive and amazing.
Not five minutes ago I finished the first two volumes of Department of Truth. It is so ####ed up and amazing. It’s like the X-Files with equal parts Stephen King and the Imagination Land episode of South Park. The art has some Bill Sienkewicz or Dave McKean Arkham Asylum vibes, if you’re into that sort of thing. Can’t wait to buy volumes 3 and 4.
I also have the Wicked + the Divine, Montress, Once & Future, East of West waiting for me. If they’re good, I’ll keep buying more volumes.

If you're into the pulp noir stuff you should check out Reckless by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. They have 5 graphic novels for the series right now and they're all fantastic. 70s/80s crime noir.
Reckless
Reckless: Friend of the Devil
Reckless: Destroy All Monsters
Reckless: The Ghost in You
Reckless: Flow Me Down

Ya I’ve heard they’re really good. I have a whole list of Brubaker and Phillips collabs on my wish list. I wanted to start with Pulp since it’s a one off but they only had the fancy hardcover at the store I went to.

Both are on my wish list. I was gonna buy Ducks today at indigo but went for some Tom King instead. Him and Tynion are probably the two best writers in comics at the moment.
The Human Target is phenomenal and addicting.

If anyone's interested, there's a smaller comic / pop culture show this weekend. I like these size ones better than the Expo.
I've actually got a table at this one to help me clear out some of my collection. Stop by and buy some of my stuff.

Ha, I posted tonight about a video game sale on the same day at Eau Claire. This one is much more my speed, to be honest.

The Red + White Comic and Toy Expo is is Sunday. They've moved from the Red & White Club at McMahon to the Acadia Rec Centre (240 90 Ave SE).
My son had fun selling at the last show so we're going to do it again. We also bought a few collections and set up a website to sell comics. I thought it would be a fun thing to do together and teach him a little about business.
Each week we throw new comics on the site. It took some time to get set up but it's much easier to maintain now that the initial catalog was uploaded.

Ooh I’d love to go.
Is it all floppies or do people sell trades?

It's everything. Comics, trades, new toys, vintage toys. I like it better than the Expo because it's not a gong show. It can be crowded but much better than the Expo. Lots of smaller vendors and better prices.

That's cool, how did you find out about that?!
I'm SUPER tempted by the Spider Gwen or Peni Parker.
You've got the Spider Gwen and Peter B. Parker ones flipped though.

The mother of the man who passed away reached out to me. I have a form on my website for people to submit when they're looking to sell comics.
Thanks for the heads-up. I swapped the images. You should just get all 4. They look great together.

My wife stole it and put it in her classroom (HS English teacher). It's loaded with graphic novels for the kids to read when they have free reading time so at least it's being used (but probably not appreciated).

I'm off to Portland for Rose City Comic Con in September for my first post-COVID con. I'm also very much removed from the comics scene these days, as I've stopped all my subscriptions save for 1, and I haven't followed week to week releases in probably well over a year. So, weird timing.
What's been out lately that has caught people's eyes? I do want to catch back up on Something is Killing the Children, and I'd like to check out The Forged since I'm a fan of the creative team. What else have I been missing? Has Saga picked up steam? Anything Marvel wise that has been hot? What other new books or creators have I missed out on?

Just bumping a few threads on this topic to ask if anyone who has graded comics has ever graded magazines? And if so who did you use? Also materials for storing them properly like we would with comic backers.
I've inherited a whole swack of boxing magazines and sports illustrated from the 60s-90s that are in incredible shape. Like I mean every issue of the Ring from those years, plus a bunch of SI full sets, various other magazines and 'special one offs'. Trying to sort through and figure out what to do with all of this stuff..

Anyone else hit up the Calgary Expo this weekend?
Managed to complete a 80-416 run of Fantastic Four and 99-544 of Uncanny X-Men. I've got 30-40 earlier odds-and-ends but this is where it gets expensive.
Also snagged lots of bronze age horror books. House of Secrets, Crypt of Shadows, Swamp Thing, etc.
It was a surprisingly decent show for comics. Though there were the usual vendors with insanely overpriced books.
