I'd actually take Talbot, and offer Gillies plus.

And Darling is hot fiery garbage. We want to lynch Smith on the daily and want to bring in this guy? Yeesh.

We already have people ready to criticize Neal for everything and pretty much hoping he doesn't do well, to be proven right. Why not hope he is coming out of it and look for signs that's the case. Glass half full, right?
Neal was inches away from a goal, as close as you can get without scoring. But posters were all "Neal sucks". Yes, he's had a bad season, but in the moment, that was a great chance, and in the game he was as good as a lot of Flames who people praised.

Same here. There is plenty of evidence to show rather clearly that the Oilers destroy all goalies. I think Talbot is salvageable, and would not be opposed to seeing the Flames pursue him in the summer.

I wonder if this means that Talbot will walk no matter what in the summer. If that is the case I can't see the Oilers getting much of a return, unless a team is really hurting for a solution right now. Otherwise they could simply sign him in the summer and not relinquish an asset.

Do the Flames ship Smith elsewhere or run 3 goalies.
I wouldn’t want to trade Giliies+ to our rival for a rental goalie that has never been a starter outside his 3 year underwhelming run in Edmonton and is also north of 30

They'd waive Smith and send him down unless someone else wants goalie insurance.
I'm assuming you can sign Talbot for a decent 1B wage. He's only had two bad years, both with a terrible, no defence, team. He is 31, but that's not that old for a goalie, especially one with only 5 NHL years on him.
I was a huge Gillies supporter but I'm really wavering on him ever making it. I think he's caught between Rittich and Parsons.
Give, however, the fact he's a UFA, I think you just wait and see if Gillies improves in the season.

Do they have any cap space after the Wideman trade?

Talbot is still a decent goalie and he would do well with a Flames defence core infront of him. Wouldn't want to give up any major assets as he can easily be signed in the summer.

Powerplay Quarterback

I love BSD, but I wonder if the Flames are targeting Matt Murray. Would be a great buy low candidate and could potentially solve our goaltending for years. He's battled some injuries and he's stunk up the joint but he's a two time cup champ and was a huge part of the reason they won. He fits with the age of our core perfectly too, it's just a solid match on paper. What would it take?

Imagine trading for Talbot and he pulls a Dubnyk with us. I would want him just for the chance alone to see their salt.

Meh. Crosby is a multi cup champ. Without the best player in the world, the Pens and Murray are not cup winners. Several other elite players as well.
Murray has been part of a winning team and also has question marks. Rittich is emerging and has good fundamentals.
Goalies can much more easily lose games with poor play than they can win them.

2014 1st round pick. Has some decent numbers in the AHL. Could be another player a team lacking offensive depth takes a flyer on.
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Scherbak (MON) on waivers

I would take him for our forth line. Guy has some good wheels, laziness is his problem though maybe being around our team and playing with Janko and Hathaway could change that.
