They're probably right. In my ward we elected probably the best councilor of the current session (Mian), yet those same people voted federally for an empty (pant)suit that doesn't even live in the country where she was elected

I think they're right for sure, Calgaries are pretty under informed as far as voting goes.
Buckle up Calgary we're about 2.5 years away from having a our waste disposal user fees quadrupled, toll roads, and sidewalk access levies, in the service of tax cuts to houses over $2M, because it's unfair that those people use the same services and pay so much more in taxes.

Good. We need some fresh blood. There's going to be a lot of rookies on the next council.

That doesn't sound like a good thing (the rookies part). They are going to be dominated by that Communities First party, so more UCP crap for us.

I had my first door knocker for the upcoming election today….
There’s gotta be some rules on when they can start this right? 5 months till the election. The guy asked if I knew anything about his candidate and I asked him why the hell he is knocking on my door 5 months before the municipal election. He did admit he’s early and they plan to knock on every door in the ward but come on.

That MP who beat PP was apparently campaigning for two years.

You've now got it out of the way - you'll probably never see them again. It's not like this is going to be a weekly occurrence.

MLAs can, and do, engage in non-partisan (theoretically) door knocking throughout their terms in office. There's no reason why a candidate for an upcoming election shouldn't get out before the election writ drops.

Yeah. And you can absolutely feel free to
1) not answer the door, which is my go-to
Or
2) say you're not interested in talking to them
I don't mind people doing it as long as they don't get butt-hurt when I lump them in with JWs and Telus salespeople and don't answer the door.

No. 2 is a good option because you can tell them you no longer want to be contacted - they can update their database with that information and you should no longer have to worry about No. 1.

One of Calgary’s three political parties won’t be running a full slate of candidates in the upcoming election, in an effort to avoid splitting conservative voters.
The A Better Calgary Party (ABC Party) held a one-time “bypass vote” amongst its members to determine whether to run a candidate in certain wards.
“We felt that for the sake of Calgarians, we need to stop splitting the vote,” ABC Party executive director Roy Beyer told Global News.
ABC Party members voted to refrain from running a candidate in five wards across the city: Ward 1, Ward 4, Ward 7, Ward 10 and Ward 13.
The incumbents in those wards include Sonya Sharp, Sean Chu, Terry Wong, Andre Chabot and Dan McLean.

I'll admit to not knowing enough about City politics or following it close enough, but phuck me, even I know Chu and McLean are deplorable.
Imagine an organization making a decision to facilitate the re-election of those people, tells you all you need to know.

According to this he hasn't registered yet.

But he's also really bad at doing anything, so maybe he's still trying to figure out how many bikes are in the registration captcha.

I'm noticing a lot of councilors leaving the fray are really good at tooting their own horn and stroking each other's ego. Carra on CBC today is basically in love with himself. And at the last council hearing Evan Spencer basically had a full hard-on for the work Walcott did with the West Elbow LAP. And for anyone in the know, Walcott did pretty much nothing to help along the West Elbow LAP. Based on what I witnessed, he didn't seriously engage with anyone except for City of Calgary planners and that was only so that he could parrot their talking points.

And this is why "conservatives" win. They vote for their team, even if it includes people like Sean Chu, because somehow that's better than a liberal/progressive candidate winning.

I think we're going to find out if this is true. I doubt it. Imo chu is gone, sharp is gone. McLean and Chabot probably stick around. In my experience constituents love Wong, but I think he faces tough competition.
Gondek is bad at politics and isn't likable. But she the only competent contender at this time. She will win a lot of votes.
