I saw Bros over the weekend. I'm a big Billy Eichner fan (I recommend his series Difficult People for anyone that cares) and I was curious to see him in the Judd Apatow treatment.

While there are some stilted scenes and wooden acting at times, it's a classic Apatow tale, who I consider to be the modern day John Hughes. Good amounts of drama mixed in with genuinely clever but sometimes raunchy comedy...all of it strikingly honest and heartfelt. That includes showing very clearly that LGBTQ relationships are not the same as straight ones, but there are some things that are universal. Awkward flirting, dissatisfaction with casual sex despite craving it, fear of intimacy, difficulty with monogamy etc. It feels like a gay version of Trainwreck for most of the film, but there's definitely a uniqueness to it that's worth watching. I think Eichner (who co-wrote this with the director) has brought his clear comedic voice to this, which is equal parts acerbic and cautiously hopeful.

It's a good film, but it won't blow you away. Still a strong recommendation overall to watch.

Just a warning for anyone who might be squeamish watching men make out...there's a lot of it, and some scenes are very sexually suggestive, but nothing graphic.

Looking forward to seeing this one. Eichner is great. He was just on the latest episode of Conan O'Brien's podcast, and they discussed the making of this film and how excited he is to finally get it released. Good stuff.

Also, his "Billy on the Street" spots promoting the movie are hilarious.

Another week another list of horror movies, and since we are now in October I thought i'd start off with my top 10 favorite horror movies of all time. If you are looking for a horror movie to watch this time of the year you can't go wrong with these. In no particular order here they are:

The Shining
The Thing
Lost Boys
Fright Night
The Guest
IT Follows
Friday the 13th
Dawn of the Dead
Scream
Suspiria
HM: Chopping Mall

Thanks! Chopping Mall is not a great movie at all it's totally a 80s B movie schlock slasher that you just can't help but have a lot of fun with.

I watched it a few years ago after the How Did This Get Made podcast covered it. It's a lot of fun for a B movie.

This was my introduction to Chopping Mall as well. Ridiculous, but enjoyable movie.

Ahh Chopping Mall… such simpler times… malls, robots, breasts, indoor carpet, lasers… peak nostalgia… it’s either the best or worst movie I’ve ever watched…

I watched the longest beer run last night. Pretty entertaining. Worth a watch id say. Pretty interesting story I think I’ll read the memoir.

I watched Bullet Train this weekend due to the recommendation in the previous page and I really had a lot of fun watching that movie. Brad Pitt still carries every scene he's in.

I'd add The Descent to the horror movies list, it's probably my favorite of that genre

I'm glad I caught that one in the theatres as it played well on the big screen.

I never much cared for the original Hocus Pocus, but I thought maybe I'd feel some small nostalgic spark if I watched the new one.

It. Is. So. Bad.

I couldn't even make it 30 mins before I jumped ship and tried to actively get eaten by sharks or drowned. Or why not both!

^I just reviewed Hocus Pocus 2 in the Disney+ thread. What a turd, you were right to jump ship.

Speaking of turds, I was really disappointed with Uncharted. As a fan of the source material I was both curious at how this would be adapted while also trying to keep an open mind and view this as its own thing. I found it to be a really bland mediocre action adventure film wearing an Uncharted skin.

The story takes some plot beats from Uncharted 4 to create a new origin story for Nathan Drake that falls flat. The character motivations and development is weak with cringe dialog that only serves to fill time between action scenes. I did like some of the action with a creative final battle but these veer too far into Fast and Furious style ridiculousness at times which takes away from the more Indiana Jones tone the rest of the movie takes.

Tom Holland's acting is fine but I couldn't help but feel he was playing a friendly neighborhood spider-man instead of an international treasure hunter. Mark Walhberg played himself and Sophia Taylor Ali's Aussie accent was just about the worst thing ever. Can't blame her too much for the poor performance when the writers made her character so boring and one dimensional.

Finally I didn't like how this teased an international adventure to exotic locations but felt like 95% of the movie was filmed in a studio. Overall it was fine to turn your brain off for 2 hours but I won't be losing any sleep waiting on the inevitable sequels. 5/10
