From is owned by Kadokawa Corporation, a media company, and Sony holds a tiny share, 2%, of that company.

Once upon a time, Sony had a chance to buy From Software with the first Demon's Souls game, but they didn't know what they had at the time...

I just hope they remake Bloodborne, or even better, make a sequel (ideally with From Software)...

I've never played a From Software game, but Elden Ring looks like a must play

My computer is pretty much the bare minimum recommended hardware with a GTX 1070TI and 16 GB of RAM, I think I'll have to try it out on steam and if it doesn't run well enough I'll refund and try in the future if I ever decide to get a current gen console

I bought it and gave it a try. It’s capped at 60fps on PC and they only show controller controls even when you don’t have one connected. Might as well play on console if they aren’t going to bother optimizing for PC.

I’ve never played a From Software game either, and I know they don’t hold your hand at all, but a combat tutorial would be helpful. The first enemy you face absolutely destroyed me three times before I got a single hit in. Not fun at all. Got a refund so no loss.

I was watching Ron Funches play on Twitch and this sums up his experience with the character creator.

Gonna be a lot of posts like this due to the hype around it and newcomers to the series. I started as a bandit, about an hour in so we’ll see if I lose patience and change to something a bit more early game friendly.

So far a giant crab ganked me and a damn dragon roasted me instantly. I’ve been playing the hell out of Bloodborne so getting back into a more souls combat is going to take a while.

And I jump when I want to pick things up. A lot.

I started a Vagabond yesterday. Have only played for about an hour but it sure looks really pretty. The controls feel nice to me as well but I'm also getting used to the jumping versus interact button.

I would strongly recommend new comers watch some videos on youtube about how the combat works. It really helps make the game more accessible and enjoyable. Also, try different characters if you're struggling. They all aren't created equal in the early game in terms of difficulty.

The very first enemy you face, in the weird sky church? As is From tradition, you are absolutely supposed to be massacred by that enemy.

Then there's a cutscene and it throws you into the actual tutorial area that explains the combat with some easy enemies. Did you just die once and turn it off?

Is that what happens in Bloodborne too? I did the exact same thing. Got killed Like instantly by some a-hole as soon as I started the game, was mad... Turned off the game and never played it again.

Yes. Another thing a lot of people don't realize about soulsborne games is that you can often just run by the enemies, including the first wolf in Bloodborne. In fact you can run all the way to the first boss in Bloodborne to get your first insight so you can then start leveling up. Makes the game much easier.

Yep, after you get killed by the first enemy in Bloodborne you wake up in a dream and get to actually pick a weapon. Then you go back and one shot that werewolf thing in the house.

I can't believe people are really that impatient with these games to not even let the cut scene load lol.

No I knew that guy was supposed to kill you. If there was a tutorial after that I must have missed it.

I only just did this yesterday but the tutorial area is down the hole you need to drop into. If you continue up the stairs and out the door, you'll get into the main area of the game.

Yeah I should definitely have more patience. I will give Bloodborne another shot. I might try Demons Souls too once it goes back on sale for PS5 again. What From game is the best/easiest for a beginner to start with? I struggle with difficult games but the From games are the type of games I really like.

I'm far from an expert but maybe Dark Souls 1? Bloodborne is excellent but very demanding action-wise, and it can be a bit frustrating because you have to buy your health potions every time. So on boss fights you can't just run back for another go, you have to grind up some currency and buy health potions again. All the other Souls games restore your health potions / flasks / whatever they're called for that game at every checkpoint.

Sekiro I found to be the most punishing difficulty of all their games, since it's all twitch based action, no leveling your character or using ranged magics or summoning co-op help. And it's just boss fight after boss fight. It's the one I gave up on, it was just too much for the aging gamer.

Elden Ring might actually be a really good one to start off on - it has all the handicaps of Dark Souls while having the benefit of just being able to wander off wherever you want if something you're up against is too hard. I played for two hours last night just exploring, finding little trinkets, and leveling up a bit -- haven't even fought a proper boss yet, really getting the hang of it first.

I would say Demon Souls as it's a little smaller in scale than the Dark Souls games and there are some good farming areas. If you find bosses or areas too difficult, just farm for souls and level up to close the gap. Also the PS5 remaster is great. These games are all about strategy and patience as the reward of defeating difficult enemies makes for a great sense of accomplishment compared to games where you can just breeze by. Bosses can be difficult but none are impossible as long as you are at a good level for your skills and have the proper equipment/spells, etc you can beat them all. Don't even think about Sekiro as IMO it's the most difficult non-2D game ever.

I agree. The Demon's Souls remaster is brilliantly done. If you play as the Royalty class, you start with a great spell and can then exploit many cheese strategies if needed (thank you poison cloud).

The soul arrow/spear spells have always been my go-to for these games.

That sounds ridiculous. What resolution?

It doesn't look that good to merit this type of hardware. PC optimization not great?

Yeah given it's more micro-stuttering and lag when it loads new assets sounds like it just needs some optimization.. maybe depending on the crazy fast IO of the consoles and they don't account for the wider range of PC IO.

I started giving it a try and I have a basic 2080 on 1440p and the worst of it is the same thing; micro-stutters and pauses when loading assets.

Though I didn't have my frame rate display on my monitor going and I was getting some vertigo triggering so I'll have to see what framerate I'm actually getting, if it's triggering my vertigo that can mean the framerate is swinging around a lot.

Also a terrible PC port because it LETS you use the mouse and keyboard, but doesn't tell you what ANY of the buttons are on mouse and keyboard, it still tells you to use right trigger to do something and you're on your own to figure out how to do it on keyboard/mouse. I still don't know how to do some of the things from the tutorial area.
