Has to be depressing that despite all the money and fortune, you still have to pay for sex and companionship........yet even at that you still get turned down. Deep down inside he has to know he's no good.

What we have is a dispute over fees between a john and a prostitute. Then her pimp got involved.

Also, Guy Fieri's funeral will probably be the first time he dresses like an adult. I bet he has a ####ing wristband under that camo jacket.

edit: can we make this a hybrid Oilers/Guy Fieri thread?

That's three pretty recent examples right there. Not saying it's the norm or even what the Oilers will do this year, but it's most certainly not "just unheard of."

What's most remarkable, is that those 4 teams were able to go from the lottery to cup contender in one rebuild. You know, instead of the 3 iterations it's taken the Oilers. I'm sure those 3 teams would be ashamed to be compared to the Oilers rebuild(s).

Blackhawks definitely failed to launch a few times.

Dan Cleary (13)
Mark Bell (8)
Tuomo Ruutu (9)
Mikhail Yakubov (10)
Pavel Vorobiev (11)
Cam Barker (3)
Jack Skille (7)

Lots of failed high picks before striking gold with Kane and Toews.

Member when Mark Bell, Kyle Calder, and Tyler Arnason were the future? I do.

Funny I don't see 4 #1 OA picks in that list

Member when Shremp, Cogliano and Gagne were the future? I do.

Come on, so much to pick apart there.

The Blackhawks went 5 years between playoffs not 10, hardly a "failure to launch."

In those 5 years they finished 3rd in their division twice, 4th once, and 5th twice. Not dead last in the league for 4 straight years.

The majority of their rebuilt team was not top 10 picks. Hjarlmarsson (108th), Seabrook (14th), Crawford (52nd), Byfuglien (245th), Keith (54th), Niemi (undrafted), Sharp (trade), Hossa (FA signing), and the list goes on. They needed 2 top 10 picks to successfully rebuild. The Oilers needed 8.

Shall I go on?

Was it better than the Oilers decade of being at the bottom? Sure.

It was still a failure to launch.
9 years out of 10 out of the playoffs.
8 different coaches.

That wasn't a smooth rebuild. No sir.

Remember this letter to Oilers fans from Kevin Lowe the week after they traded away Ryan Smyth? Pepperidge farm remembers

Hi, this is Kevin Lowe.

After a very eventful week around the hockey club, I wanted to take a moment and communicate to you, our most valued customers, our continued commitment to success.

As I stated last week, our hockey club will always do what we feel is in the best interest of our fans, and in the best interest of building a Stanley Cup championship team here in Oil Country.

Right now, we have a core group of veteran players and a wealth of emerging young talent. Last week’s trade brought us two more young players in Robert Nilsson and Ryan O’Marra, and another first round draft choice in this year’s NHL draft. They will join players like Pouliot, Jacques, Stortini, Brodziak, and Schremp, just to name a few, as potential members of a championship Oilers club. Certainly, along the way, we will add to our roster through trades and free agency when the right opportunities are there, now that we have the resources to do so. Make no mistake; our plan is to return the Stanley Cup to Edmonton.

We have an exciting future ahead of us all, and we look forward to sharing it with you.

Thanks again for your ongoing support of Oilers Hockey

I don't think there is such a thing as a "smooth rebuild". Maybe for teams that don't have a rabid fanbase, but that's probably just a failure to pay attention closely enough. Rebuilds suck.

Edit: with that said, most don't take 10 seasons.

She'd get him in the divorce, and Darryl would be allowed to keep his Friday night pajama party with Mac-T, Klowe and Rysmy

Oilers up by 2 against the sharks tonight, 1:20 left in the game and those losers get a powerplay. Smart plan would be to put out some of their neanderthals to grind out the clock and prevent injury. Who do they put out? McDavid and his line to try and pad the stats on the powerplay. Brilliant. Just asking for an injury. Seems like he was on for the whole game.
