You can be as racist as all get out and not even know it frankly

The perception gap remains.
That's not what he said at all.

Bo, the only "perception gap" is between your ears.

Part of me wants to hear "Lock'em Up!" chants, but I suppose it's better to take the high road and just let things play out.

After some good laughs over that the rest of the round was peaceful and pretty enjoyable.

I feel like "you're fired!" is completely on side in this case though.

Just got a very, very long email from someone with the same name as someone we knew years ago though a church we attended. It implored us to pray for Trump and his re-election. I’ll ignore it but I’m tempted to reply and say I’ll pray alright - that he and his criminal family get what they deserve: prison. I am wondering if it’s the person we knew through the church. Could be but probably not.

Although this is likely not the end of the Trumpist movement with how many votes he got in 2020 despite his failing, congrats to Americans on at least 4 years of stable presidency. You've earned it by going out and voting at historical levels where truly each vote mattered.

I feel like losing fair and square will soften a lot of the pro-trump crowd. Especially with how poorly their "man" is handling it. I feel like looking ahead to 2024 was the wiser move for him in this situation. Its done, the more he denies it the more his people will distance themselves from him.

The people that continue to go to war in the streets for him in a disruptive way will be limited to pretty a specific group that was beyond reason to begin with.

Look up a song called "Pray For You" by a group called Jaron & The Long Road To Love (such a lame name) and send them the YouTube link.

OK, I'm kidding. Mostly, lol.

They also truly think that democrats deal in socialism, and they want unfettered capitalism above all else. It's rooted in ideology, not hatred. But yeah, they ignore the bad stuff to get what they want, which is the problem.

I know, it's hard because it creates cognitive dissonance in me as well, but I have to accept them as the people they are and work to change them by being an example and maybe having a rare conversation on a topic we can agree on.
I have a bunch of family in California. Many of them - not all, but some - are Republicans. Lifelong Republicans. They are all beautiful people. They are not racists (from anything I have ever seen), and they certainly aren't misogynists. They don't vote for Trump, they vote Republican. If asked about his racist or misogynistic behavior, they would say that the media has twisted it, or blown it out of proportion, or even made it up. They would also say that they were Republicans before Trump, and they'll be Republicans long after he is gone.

We are ALL vulnerable to cognitive dissonance at times. It doesn't make us bad people if/when we are guilty of it.

They are beautiful people and I love them. And the fact that they make their political choices for different reasons than I do, doesn't change that, and it doesn't change my opinion of them as people.

Replace all the Republican references with, say, the LA Lakers. They're treating politics like sports teams, basically.

That's a problem in our political landscape today.

Yeah there are good people on the other side.

They likely grew up with a different belief system but their heart is in the right place still. Seen it myself too.

Good candidate or terrible candidate they'll vote the way of their party.

I won't understand the defending or downplaying of Trumps comments but at least those good ones don't get bent out of shape and won't go disrupting other people's lives for the guy.

I'm hoping there are more of those people than not.

This morning my wife sat our 3 year old down and said "You've only ever known a world with Donald Trump as President. Today they declared Joe Biden will be President and that's very exciting. Can you say 'Yay Biden!'?"

My little guy then would yell "Yay, Biden!"

Tonight I'm drinking to celebrate, I'm drinking in relief, I'm drinking from exhaustion, I'm drinking because it's Saturday and I'm an East Coaster....

Here's to making the orange (IPA) disappear!

I may have already started

What’s with the posts defending Trumpers?

I don’t think it needs explaining that humans are capable of an incredible amount of rationalization. Be it the actions of their politicians, their family or their own actions. It’s a human trait to have totally different attitudes towards people we know vs strangers. It means we can ignore some truly abhorrent behaviours as long as we don’t have to see it personally and as long as no one we know is adversely affected.

I’ve met plenty of racists who are kind to their black or brown neighbours but wouldn’t hesitate to agree with trump in private or make racist comments about minorities who they see on tv.

BTW, I knew some Auschwitz guards. They were wonderful, normal people who always treated me well. They were even nice to their Jewish neighbours. Who am I to judge them just because we have differing political views?

Oh well, cognitive dissonance and all that and how dare anyone suggest they are terrible people for supporting their political party. They’re not dumb, they’re white collar and educated. I find it offensive that anyone would suggest they are horrible racist pieces of #### based solely on how they voted. The nazi policies benefitted them and so they voted accordingly. But they’re nice people, I swear!
