Mea Culpa - I am not good at Soulsborne games, but I enjoy the hell out of them...even though I am sometimes forced to grind, farm, cheese, die and repeat, I come back again and again and again.
Really excited for Elden Ring and might have to bite the bullet and just get a PS4 version and upgrade later as I still have not gotten my hands on a PS5 yet...
Ditto. I feel like I had to exploit literally anything I could to get through these games but I love it.
I have Elden Ring already pre-loaded on my ps5 so now it's just playing the waiting game!

Yup, GOTG-level reviews. The only thing that might touch it this year is Zelda, if it releases in 2022. And even then I would expect excellent but slightly softer reviews than the first since it will lack that surprise / wow factor (that Elden Ring rolled in with).
I've read there's no difficulty setting in Elden Ring?
I guess I'll play it on PC where I can cheat a bit to make it through but I can still experience it. Those kinds of games are just too difficult for me.

From one of the reviews I read it does sound like a difficult game as typical from FromSoftware. That said unlike say Sekiro you have freedom to go about and level up on lower level quests and come back to face difficult bosses when you are properly equipped. Always served me well in the Souls games when having difficulty with a boss to go farming and come back at a higher level which made the odds more in your favor.

I'm also one of those strange people that enjoys the zen of the grind in these games. I make much slower progress in these games than some people but I just try to enjoy the ride. Summons really make the souls games more approachable as well (unlike Sekiro which I'm still surprised I was able to finish).

Colour me a bit surprised it’s getting so much attention. I know there’s an insane Bloodborne online community still but I didn’t expect the attention Elden Ring is getting. Horizon must be pretty miffed they waited so long to release a sequel and I’ve not seen a soul say a word about it

I'm surprised Sony hasn't tried to acquire FromSoftware. They are arguably the most consistent of all developers as their games never disappoint.

Crap. The Elden Ring minimum/recommended requirements for PC basically means I have to do some pretty significant upgrades if I want to get the best experience out of it.

Yeah, what's up with Horizon? It feels almost like a stealth release. I've seen little marketing or hype about it and it doesn't seem to have much AAA buzz floating around.
OK 2 things. First, I just can't get behind putting the English lyrics version of aria de mezzo carattere in there, but maybe that's just personal preference. But bigger issue... this remaster honestly looks worse to me, in many respects? Like the overworld especially looks awful. I guess some battles look better but... nah, I'm not in.

That's because just like how I posted in the arcade thread, most of these graphics were not to be seen as clean high resolution pixels but the designs and colors were chosen to diffuse on CRT and lower resolution screens. Making everything crisp & pixel perfect is a dumb modern trend that misunderstands the original context of the art.
