I don’t think it would be possible for a President to independently fake a life threatening illness. There has to be many layers of failsafes in these situations to protect the security of the country.

All the travel and interaction it's really just down to probability. They live a high risk lifestyle and openly ignore the public health recommendations. He looks like a bigger fool now and I don't see any sympathy forthcoming unless he has a bad case.

There's no way it's made up. The release of this news makes them all look like huge idiots for not taking all of this seriously. Why would they intentionally want to do that?

On CNN right now, they're showing a photo of Pence, McConnell, Barrett and others and wondering how this might affect the higher levels of government and the supreme court hearings if they all have to quarantine.

Also this isn't particularly great news for Democrats either. They have to figure out how to respond appropriately to this, do they continue campaigning against a president who may be seriously ill? Or do they postpone the campaign?

Also if Pence ends up being on the ballot instead, you'd have to think he has a much better chance of winning as a far more palatable vote for Republicans.

Nah, I don't go in for conspiracy theories. If the end goal was to achieve sympathy or drop out, a better way would be to announce a heart attack due to working so hard for the American people, not to embarrass himself by catching a virus he has repeatedly claimed either doesn't exist or is just a minor inconvenience. They look like fools right now.

A - Democrats don’t need to do much of anything when the opponent is losing all on his own

B - too late for all that. Ballots are already printed, already mailed.

I don't think this is correct. If there is no election, then Pelosi's term will end. The terms of all members of the House would end on January 3rd. There would be a Senate. The current president pro tempore is Charles Grassley. With no election the Democrats would have a majority of the officials not up for reelection. The honour of president pro tempore is usually given to the longest serving majority senator, which would be Patrick Leahy, but they could choose anyone they wanted, including Bernie Sanders.
