That generation of American players was actually decent and would have accomplished so much more in any era. The pressure on them must have been insane, it was just assumed that Americans would continue to dominate the sport. I think the "Lost Generation" had the same pressure.

Looks like they are expanding 5 more Masters 1,000 events to be 12 day tournaments like Miami and IW, and Canada is one of them. The others are Rome, Madrid, Cincy and Shanghai.

2009 Wimbledon, Nadal was the #1 seed but had to pull out due to injury. Roddick vs Federer might have been a semi final match if he played and maybe Roddick wins with less pressure of a final.
Also Djokovic lost to Tommy Haas (seriously) in the quarters or it would have been Djokovic vs Federer in the semis and who knows who wins that match.

Some good news from across the pond as Brayden Schnur has qualified for the main draw of the Moselle Open in Metz, France. Vasek plays his opening round match later this morning (if he wins, he will play the winner of Ugo Humbert - Andy Murray who tangle on Tuesday).

quick quotes from a couple of guys you may know

"The worst is behind me, I'm looking forward to all that is coming up," he said, speaking in Zurich during a sponsor event for Mercedes-Benz.
Federer indicated he is not yet back in training, saying he "wants to get back to conditioning and the court as soon as possible" and has to take it "step by step," but also sounded eager about the "challenge" of coming back.
"When you come back from an injury, every day is a better day. An exciting time," he said. "It's not a problem mentally."

"I have the goal of improving and facing a process that is going to be difficult, painful at some point , but I have to do it to fight for what I want. And I am determined to do it,'' he said in a documentary series on the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca.
The 35-year-old acknowledges that at this point in his career, "it becomes more and more complicated, but you have to value the positive things."

I was just thinking how hard it must have been to be a tennis fan in the 90s. There was only one TSN channel so you probably didn't get all the Master events and probably not the 500 tournaments on TV. Plus with the internet you can watch basically any match you want. You also had no way to check a score unless it was printed in a newspaper the next day. I think part of the rise in popularity of tennis has to do with technology. Now it's super easy to see if Rune won a match at the Moselle Open and you could watch it or follow along every point, when in the past you probably couldn't even see if Pete or Andre won a big match until the next day.

Andy Murray just sent Ugo Humbert packing in three sets thus it sets up a Vasek - Andy Murray clash on Wednesday.

Brayden Schnur just took the opening set 6-3 over former top 10 player Lucas Pouille. Interesting to see that Brayden has switched sticks (he used to play with a Babolat Pure Strike and now it appears he's wielding a Yonex Ezone).

Also, I can confirm that he is still no-bounce Brayden as far as serving is concerned.

We need a 3rd set as Pouille takes set 2 6-4. Too bad as Schnur was up 40-15 serving at 4-4 and got broken.

Darn, Pouille advances winning 3-6 6-4 6-4. Schnur played quite well today, just couldn't get it over the line. Next up is Vasek versus Andy Murray.
