All 22x traffic has moved to the new bridge. The westbound bridge's barrier is now coming down for the new lanes and there were actual workers working during working hours this week!

How is the 22x bridge over rush hour with the new traffic alignment?

Same as it was before the realignment, a giant mess.

The weekly newsletter just arrived, and regarding the Bow River bridge - all three northbound lanes should be open by the end of the weekend.

As calf reported earlier, one NB lane is already open. The rest other two will be very soon.

Sweet! Will be interesting to see what kind of change that makes to the traffic logjam. Looking at the final plan it shows 5 lanes NB over the bridge. 3 are form NB Stoney coming down the hill from the south. The other 2 lanes appear to be the WB and EB TCH tie ins (2 lanes each) which will be pretty much the way it was originally.

I'm not sure if it is going to the final configuration right off of the bat, but I suppose it could if everything else is in place. And likewise SB should see an increase in lanes as well, now that the NB lanes won't be sharing that bridge.

Anything is better than the current bottleneck, that's for sure!

Edit: I see now that 3 NB lanes will be open this weekend, so not eventual 5, but we'll take 3 for now. When I said "the rest", that was my wording/assumption - apologies. That should help the bottleneck considerably the three converging directions should each get their own free flowing lane.

Drove 17th ave this afternoon and there was no one behind me so I slowed right down to have a look as far north and south as I could. All lines are painted and they were finishing up a little shoulder paving on the southbound lanes near the merge lane. Straw erosion mats and some hydro seeding is done.

The on and off ramps are now paved and lines are painted and all the topsoil is down as far as I could tell. A whole bunch of guys in white pickups looking at things.

This thing is real close.

No new updates on the website for a few weeks. Any other rumours out there? Does this open before the end of 2023?

It has to be so close for the final leg. I’ve viewed it from hwy 8 and 17th. The road looks done. So just the little things

This was what was said on Oct. 19:

Quote:
“It’s our best-case scenario and our expectation and hope that early in the new year, Calgarians and everybody travelling in and around Calgary will be able to enjoy the completed ring road,” Transportation and Economic Corridors Minister Devin Dreeshen said Thursday at a news conference just south of the artery’s Bow River bridge.

“Most of it is actually completed now, there’s a lot of auditing and going through the final negotiations to make sure the different overpasses and pavement is up to par, and that work is underway right now,” said Dreeshen, adding the project is also on budget at just over $1 billion.

Looks to me like the Highway 8 interchange is the last thing they're waiting on which makes sense, it was far behind the other interchanges due to relocating power lines and a bunch of other stuff they had to wait for.

This nice weather can't hurt the completion timeline.

The South Bow River Bridge Project page was updated this week. Everything that used to say 2023 now says 2024.

Almost 4 frigging years.

I don't think I've seen a single person working on the pedestrian bridge in months

I'm in Calgary for the first time in 3 years and this ring road is amazing.
I've been going between the Spruce Meadows area to the new community's in the NW edge of the city, to the Aspen area & this commuting is so much easier than it would have been before.

Is this 22x?

Ridiculously slow. I frequent Dunbow Road these days.

Yeah 22X over the river between Chaparral and Cranston, this project is taking an absolutely absurd amount of time.

South Bow River Bridge Project will be the last piece of the ring road. The entire west portion will be done before they finish that bridge

To put it in perspective at how stupid it is that the 22x bridge(s) aren't done yet, the Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4 realignment and widening will be completed before this is, and they both started around the same time. One is referred to as a massive engineering achievement, the other is nothing special.

22x:
- Removal of bridge
- 1 new bridge
- Widening 1 bridge
- Small pedestrian bridge

KHC Ph4:
- 4 new bridges
- 9 viaducts
- 7 large retaining walls
- 6 big rock cuts
- Remote work site

Why do we let contractors just take their sweet ass time on projects in this city?

Every time I drive over that bridge it seems like there is no work going on at all and this is during daytime hours. There must be some sort of incentive to get it done on time
