Hated the movie Prey as well so a lot of you will probably enjoy this movie.

Would say more but don’t want to spoil it for others.

I was looking forward to Beast and was very disappointed. Special effects were terrible, the acting was terrible.

The 80s movie Cujo puts this piece of S$#t to shame. The movie had so much potential. Youtube would entertain you a lot more than this movie.
Beast was dumb fun. Prey was dumb fun on steroids.

I take it you're not a fan of dumb fun.

Pretty clear neither film was trying for Oscar nominations.

I do like dumb fun.

Prey and Beast are like watching a Scream movie.

A character says I will be right back! No sane person does that.

I was hoping for a movie that was a good movie. Not just dumb fun.

A movie I could watch again.

Again we all have our different tastes in movies.

You enjoyed the dumb fun? I think how could they have made the movie better. So I could watch it again. And enjoy it! Make a good horror flick.

I am rewatching Cujo tonight. A movie 40 years old.

I remember it as a good show, we will see how it plays out 40 years later.

Again you like what you like.

There are just so many shows out there that if they spent a little more money, or tried a little harder they could be classics.

Barbarian is a 10/10.

So much fun. Laughed and cried.

Go in with as little information as possible.

I'll see you on the other side.

Where the Crawdads Sing wasn't terrible, I kind of enjoyed it. Probably be a good date movie, kind of reminded me of The Notebook. Has Daisy Edgar Jones who seems to be in everything I watch lately which I don't mind cause she's good. I'll give it 2.5 stars (out of 5)

This week's horror movie theme is comedy horror movies. It's still really early before Halloween so you don't want to start watching the really scary stuff yet. Done right the horror comedy can be a great melding of two genres and can be used to create some classics. Here are some of my favorites:

Cabin in the Woods
Return of the Living Dead
Zombieland
Shaun of the Dead
Warm Bodies
What we do in the Shadows
Beetlejuice
The Final Girls
Happy Death Day
Scary Movie 1 & 3
Ghostbusters

What We Do In The Shadows isn't even horror. It's just straight up comedy. Same for Ghostbusters. Horror implies that there will be some terror and suspense at some point.

An American Werewolf in London is comedy-ish.

"ish" is a good way to describe it. Some interesting levity throughout, and some elements of a real drama too. It also has one of the most chilling and terrifying scenes I've ever seen in a movie too, so it check the horror box very well.

The 80s was the best time for comedy horror. You had a bunch of movies basically lampooning the 70s horror tropes. Off the top of my head:

Munchies
Basket Case
Critters
Tremors
Evil Dead
The Leprechaun (may be from the 90s)
Child's Play

For more recent stuff:

From Dusk til Dawn
Zombieland
Troma films entire repetoir

Those two are certainly more comedy than horror but they both have elements of horror with vampires and ghosts. Just enough to get you to start thinking about Halloween and horror movies.

Not horror, but I've been diving into some old Alfred Hitchcock movies lately - The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956 version), Rope!, The Trouble With Harry and Saboteur. All great watches.

I was gonna watch Prey but decided to watch Predator instead. Hadn’t seen it in ages. What an amazing movie. Except the weird Joker laugh by the predator at the end. Wtf was with that? Terrible choice. Otherwise nearly flawless.

It's widely believed by that he was mimicking Billy's laugh. Not clear if he's mocking Dutch, laughing at the situation, or it was the one voice clip that registered to him to use in that situation not knowing the full meaning of it.

My boy and I watched Predator then Prey.

Predator is an enjoyable romp and in that aspect it is flawless, but a flawless movie it is not.

Here's something for movie buffs to bookmark and check everyday.

This site gives you a frame of a movie and you have to guess what movie it is. If you guess wrong it shows you another frame. You get 6 frames to get it right. There's a new movie every day. Everyone gets the same movie so you can compare with friends.

That’s basically exactly the same as the game HD used to run on CP. I used to love those.

Watched A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, an Iranian indie-horror movie from 2014 which got a lot of attention and great reviews back when it was new in various festivals, and is considered somewhat of a genre classic at this point. I would say the status is well deserved, it's a a film well worth seeing. If for nothing else, you rarely get to see this kind of imagery from places like Iran, with urban characters and situations that wouldn't be out of place in any western country.

It's small budget, quiet and slowish, but it had that undefinable "something", a unique atmosphere and just succeeded in being it's own, interesting thing without trying too hard. I'm not sure I'd call it a horror movie really, there's some gore but the atmosphere is more playful/funny, suspenseful, or melancholic than scary. Sergio Leone's italowesterns were clearly one major inspiration.

Would recommend if it happens to be on somewhere near you.

(Helsinki International Film Festival is about to start, so stay tuned for more festival movie recommendations in the coming weeks )

Someone here recommended that a while back, still sitting in my pile, gotta get to it soon.

Rewatched "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates", I forgot how damn funny it was. have been on a huge Aubrey Plaza kick lately with Emily the Criminal, Black Bear and Ingrid Goes West, all incredible. Same with The Little Hours.
