Just looking at the roster and the dead weight contracts that they have.
Milan Lucic - 4 years after this at 6 million per. Now I can't blame Chia for being seduced by Lucic's size and resume and probably his dreamy eyes. But the structure of the contract is terrible because there's literally no out for the team. Either he's going to have to be clubbed behind the arena and health retired or they're going to have to hope that someone is stupid. The sad thing is that they can't leave him exposed in the expansion draft due to his NMC.
Ryan Spooner - 3.1 million for another year after this one. Just a terrible hockey player making good money. There's no doubt that this is a bad contract. And he won't generate much interest around the league without a major incentive.
Tobias Reider - $2 million heading to RFA. Bought in as a scoring winger for the McDavid, but has done little of that. He might be movable at the deadline for a team looking for depth. But don't expect much
Leon Draisaitl - 8.5 million 6 more years after this one. Not a terrible contract by any stretch. The concern is that they're paying him like a number 2 center that should be driving a line, instead he's better as a complimentary winger on a line with McDavid. He's not super over paid, but I believe he is about $1.5 million too high.
Buy out on the books
Benoit Poulliot 1.33 for this year and next
Eric Gryba 300 k for this year and next year.
Unsure
Andrei Sekera - earning 5.5 million against the Cap for two more years after this one. At 32 years he can't stay healty and its questionable if a 32 year old with serious injuries over the last two years can stay as a top 4 blueliner.
Question
How willing is Katz going to be to allow the Oilers to "Buy their way" out of Cap trouble.

That presser, Chia looks like he's on a plethora of drugs, valium, uppers, downers.
I loved his explanation that Manning wasn't playing in Chicago because he was a victim of circumstances.
Chia looks completely worn out.
I guess that happens when someone else is jerking your strings around.

The "circumstances" was that the guy SUCKED! -14 in only 27 games, mostly, with Seabrook as his D-partner. Seabrook isn't very good, anymore, but, tying a boat anchor like Manning to him, did Seabs no favors.

With RNH at C, they literally do not have a single top 6 winger. Not one.
How can you draft top 10 ten times in the last 12 years, and have ZERO top 6 wingers. I would not have thought that even possible.

With Cagiulla traded, the Oilers will have 4 players in the lineup today that have more then 3 goals. And 2 more that have 3.
(For comparison's sake, the Flames will have 11 and 4)
