And I was being generous with the 2% number.
Until you have numbers backing up your claim, your wager doesn't hold much weight.

By thw way, you're right about the expensive part (unfortunately, but that goes back to the supply and demand problem), but wrong on the convenience part. How is it less convenient to live in a higher density area, likely where you're closer to work and still have all the amenities around you? I don't get that one...
|
Parking is a huge issue with high density property. How many grocery stores are downtown?? I have 4 within 5 minutes of my home. I bet the availability recreation facilities and schools would be a problem. No yards, no street hockey, no dogs. People want their security blanket cul-de-sac where their kids can safely run wild.

Ya, just look at NYC or any European city. There are no children. There are no dogs, and there is definitely no street hockey.
Cool view of the world you've got!

I dont give a fata whether the peace bridge or the overpass at seton and Deerfoot is used by more people. I'd rather have the peace bridge than the overpass because the people using the peace bridge are the residents of Sunnyside and Hillhurst, and they're using it to walk into downtown. That's one less car in my way, and besides, those people paid 3x the amount of taxes than the people in Cranston, and 100% more taxes than the people driving in from Okotoks.

There are two grocery stores within walking distance of my Beltline condo (three if you count Community Natural Foods).

There are plenty of both in and around downtown. Contrast with several new suburban developments where a school might be built someday.
WTF? In my downtown condo, there are at least seven families with pet dogs, including mine. We see dozens of other people walking their dogs everytime we take ours out.

There are numerous public parks and playgrounds downtown where kids can safely run wild.

I live inner city. I have 4 grocery stores within 5 minutes of my home. There are schools and parks and recreation facilities. There are tons of people with yards and dogs. Why do kids need to run wild? Are they really safer on a cul-de-sac? Or is it just perception?

It was sarcasm, you were alluding that people want those things, as if the inner city or high-density does not provide them.... anyways, moving on

Ok how about Portland Oregon, they subscribe to a transit and bicycle transportation first development.
Everyone should take the time to watch this documentary.

Peace Bridge fits better with Plan It Calgary.
New, expensive interchanges do not.
Peace Bridge makes more sense from a sustainability perspective.

How many of these residents will now suddenly change their minds and decide to walk to work once the bridge is built? What % are using the existing infrastructure?

I was referring to condos right downtown. Sounds like you're in a neighbourhood outside the core itself.
