A little! and they could be 3-0 next week with an offensively disorganized 49er team going into that madhouse.

yes...i really do understand the rule.

The way this new rule works is he can tell them that he's wants a time out just as the ball is snapped so he doesn't have to time anything or signal time out.
|
Huh? He HAS to call the TO before the snap occurs..same as any play. I have never heard of any other rule suggesting this is different just because a FG is being attempted. If what you say is true then I may agree with you, but I have never heard this before.
The reason that the official is beside the coach in these cases is so that the coach can be heard over a loud stadium when he calls a TO. IIRC, I remember John Fox talking about this a few years back.

Revis sits out and then picks up an injury that players usually pick up in camp when they're not quite in game shape. Shocking!

Flacco with an absolutely terrible game.
I really don't understand why the Ravens can't ever seem to beat that team.

Lewis went off on the refs after the game, I wonder how much he will be fined.

We laugh about it so much [about] quarterbacks getting all of this protection. I get tired of whining about quarterbacks. But bottom line, when you show a play a year ago, where a man pull up from hitting a quarterback and the quarterback keeps the ball, he’s a hero. Then you finish a play like we’re taught to do. That’s what defenders do. We finish the play. Terrell can’t stop in midair and pull up on Carson after he still has the ball."

I like Ray, but it wasn't the refs fault that Flacco played worse than a high school QB.

Maybe we can run our so called "gimmick play" down your throat again, you know the one that we brought back to the league, the one that the Jets couldn't stop on Monday night, I am looking forward to this game. Its going to be hard hitting smash mouth football at its best. People might not like it but I think it will be a defencsive struggle.
I just wish Revis would play at 100% so there would be no excuses from that so called trash talking coach of yours.

Well that game lacked excitement since Indy had control of the game since the beginning. Great game all around (especially Addai/Brown running the ball).
Look forward to next week @ Denver.

Watched the quadrennial Broncos/Seahawks game with my Broncos buddy today.
Frustrating, if only because of missed opportunities, poor turnovers, and the bend but don't break defense bending too much at inopportune times.
Hasslebeck. Bleh. Marched the team down first drive very well. Two penalites, one his fault, pushed them back to 2nd and goal at the 15. Then throws up a patented rainbow I'm all too accustomed to seeing, and they end with zero points and a shot to the confidence.
After next series, a muffed punt sets up an easy 7 for Denver.
Another red zone turnover before half and Seattle is down at half. Denver dominated time of possession, thanks to the Seahawks defense giving up 3rd down after 3rd down, some through penalties, some through playing too zone of a defense.
Seattle starts 3rd quarter well with a TD, but Denver takes over the time of possession game again. With Denver pinned, takes a penalty to get them out of third and long, then on the same drive, three guys miss a tackle on Moreno for a loss, and he gains 50 yards.
Give credit to Denver, they played controlled and calmer at times, but SEA's defense for 2 out of 3 downs was great, and giving Denver 3rd and 5+ most every time...but then giving up 8 yards on third down time and again.
Halfway through the 4th before the garbage stats starting accumulating, Denver was 14 of 16 on 3rd down....last week Seattle held SF to 1-15 on third down. Amazing swing.
So considering the heat and the time the defense was on the field, not going to put the blame on them.
Offense was ok too, Hasslebeck did move the ball and everyone got involved and looked dynamic, something that couldn't be said previous years, and the running game looked to be at least useful in keeping Denver on its toes.
Golden Tate touched the ball 2 times. 67 yard punt return and 50 yard reception...not a bad NFL debut. But the carelessness of Hasslebeck's decisions, that have had me pulling my hair out for 4+ year, continues...that early drive would've calmed the game down. His other two turnovers too were at bad times...just as the team looked to be on a roll.
Credit to Denver, but Seattle very very easily could've had that game 10 points closer without those timely turnovers...don't get a couple third down penalties to extend Denver drives and maybe the momentum swung the other way as Seattle's defense could spend less time on the field, and Seattle's offense, a few more drives on the field.
SD for SEA next week. Hoping the Saints roll over SF tomorrow.

This seemed to go against what McDaniels said in his postgame. So, I counted the third down situations for Denver. They had 13 third downs with 5 or less yards to go to only 8 of over 5 yards, and one of those was the kneel down series to end the game.

Heh. Right. Barring that first Seattle drive (that they blew with penalties and a pick) Denver owned this game. Their insane 3rd down conversions and Hasselbeck being an INT machine was game over. Coulda shoulda woulda. 10 points closer and it's still a convincing win.
Denver looked great today, Moreno was there to play. Thomas was awesome in his first game as a pro. Glad to see Orton get his tunnel vision off of Gaffney for a bit. But the Broncos have a very tough stretch coming up though. 4 insane games, I'm just hoping they're above .500 when it's over.

Hey, whatever.
Seattle doesn't get that penalty on the Forsett touchdown (seen those holding calls go both ways) and then the muffed punt and its 14 point swing just like that. Seattle's defense makes one or two plays on those critical 3rd downs to stop drives, and who knows. Add to that the attempt at 4th and 2 instead of going for the makeable FG in the 3rd (trying to take back momentum and give the team a spark, down by 17), and the game is fairly tight just on the scoreboard, not taking into consideration the momentum changes and decision changes in a tighter score game.
Denver looked fine, made some plays and got some gifts. Although fairly surprised to see Forsett run through the D-line on a regular basis (although my Broncos buddy says the Dline in Denver is poor).
Just saying Seattle didn't look as bad as the score indicated or get dominated all over the field all day; the usual Hasslebeck frustrating decisions and the muffed punt changed that entire game before the first half of the first quarter. However past Seahawk teams just needed one thing to go wrong and they folded like a tent, in this game, they kept making plays on offense and defense (3rd downs excluded, frustrating given the shutdown they did on SF last week), even down by 17. Would've just been nice to have those obvious one or two key plays reversed and would've been a totally different game.

I didnt watch this game all that closely but from what I saw, Moreno was not very good running the ball at all. I remember a couple decent runs after the catch out of the backfield, but he was getting stuffed at the line...though that may be as much on the O-Line as it is on him. Im still waiting for this kid to breal out like I thought he would because it looks like he has AP kind of skills whenever i see him and ceratinly going back to his college career.

Mike Pereira, the NFL's Vice President of Officiating from 2004-09, said the officials were wrong in flagging Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs for roughing the passer in Sunday's loss at Cincinnati.
"While referees are instructed to err on the side of safety when it comes to protecting the quarterback, I feel the call was incorrect," said Pereira, who now works for Fox.
He added, "Suggs made a form tackle on [Bengals quarterback Carson] Palmer. And while he did land on top of him, he did not appear to unnecessarily or violently throw the quarterback down and land on top of him with most or all of his weight, which is what the rule states. I can see why the referee made the call that he did, but to me, it was a normal tackle and not a foul."

Also Sergio Kindle is expected to sign a one year deal today. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/spor...nday.html#more
Quote:
ergio Kindle will sign a one-year deal with the Ravens as soon as Monday, according to the website Pro Football Talk. The deal would be worth the standard rookie salary of $320,000. Because he has missed the first two weeks of the regular season, Kindle would receive $282,000.
Kindle, the Ravens' top pick in the 2010 draft, suffered a head injury after falling down two flights of stairs in late July. The rookie linebacker was essentially ruled out for the season by the Ravens on Friday.
Even though the deal would be for one year, the Ravens would likely hold exclusive rights to Kindle for the first four years of his career.
Kindle's options are to sign with the Ravens or re-enter the draft in 2011.

A little bit, however its still early. They got very lucky to win that game in Cleveland yesterday. A Mike Vrabel forced fumble with a Glen Dorsey recovery in FG range. Branden Flowers pick 6. The Browns Phil Dawson's missed FG all played a big part in the Chiefs narrow victory. In the first half it looked like the Seneca Wallace lead Browns were going to blow the Chiefs out of the water. Their second TD drive started somewhere near their own goal line and 3 plays and 1:28 later they scored.
However the Chiefs came out of the locker room after the half and totally outplayed the Browns. The Browns only had 55 yards of offense in the second half. Also Matt Cassel, who was absolutely dreadful in the first half, played well enough to win in the second half going eight for twelve.
Both the Browns and the Chiefs did incredible jobs on kick and punt return coverage taking Josh Cribbs, Javier Areanas, and Dexter McCluster completely out of the equation.
The Chiefs defense looks much improved, however everyone realizes that the Chiefs can only go as far as Matt Cassel can take them and so far it doesn't look that promising.

Two games into his second season with the Chiefs, we’re still waiting for him to be effective. He completed just 16 of 28 passes for 176 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns. His passer rating is now 55.8. No quarterback has started at least 12 games with a passer rating that low since Browning Nagle for the Jets in 1992.
|
Quote:
Here’s a depressing sentence: The Chiefs have scored 13 points on 20 possessions that started on their half of the field this season.
|
Quote:
But nobody can think the Chiefs will continue to win with an offense that is essentially killing time between big plays by the defense and special teams.
