It might be too loud to take off that late at night. They might make exceptions for it though.

YYC is a 24 hour operation (with no restrictions), so they could depart whenever they want.

this is a bad time to ask this, but might be a good time due to the activity of the thread.
Toronto to Tokyo on Air Canada, is this a polar route? I checked FlightAware then realized I'm not 100% certain where the North Pole is on the map shown

A direct route would fly over northern Alaska, and cross the Bering Straight at near the narrowest point, then sort of follow the russian coastline down.

Yes, that is also what I remember when following our position while flying to Beijing from Vancouver a few years ago. I don't know if that is the most direct route - but perhaps the safest?
edit: actually if it is direct flight from Toronto - would it take the Alaska / Russia route?

A great circle route (the shortest route) from Vancouver to Tokyo would be over southern Alaska (over Anchorage) while from Toronto you would be over central/northern Alaska. Both would go out over the Aluetians and south along the coast of Siberia to Japan.

Vancouver to Tokyo doesn't go over mainland Alaska at all - at least not the shortest route. Calgary to Tokyo still flies south of Anchorage.

The word on the 225 loading operation was that it was supposed to take 6 hours here. So if all goes according to plan it could be departing Tuesday morning around 7:15.

You are correct, they tend to fly more northerly than a pure direct great circle. I stand corrected.

Another update on the 225 into YYC. Still planned for 0115 Tuesday, however a source says departure will be at 1115 Tuesday morning.

Antonov 225 Tuesday AM Update
A new flightplan is in the system. ADB148F is scheduled to arrive at YYC at 0901(est). Track the flight here:
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/ADB148F
With the current forecast it looks like a runway 16 arrival is almost guaranteed at this point.
It's on.
