My 30th birthday is in July of this year... now that I've met this goal, I have to set a new one for myself. It keeps me motivated.

TorqueDog, just out of curiosity, what do you do for work that allows you to buy an M5 at 22 years old, and an Aston Martin before you're 30? That's some insane car ownership right there. Well done!

Relating that back to cars, it's kind of why I feel sorry for the kids who's parents bought them a BMW or Range Rover or whatever in high school. Talk about taking away all motivation to improve their situation in life.

100% this.
I could be a billionaire, and my daily driver would still be a VW GTI. There isn't one car on the road that combines all the elements better. Quality, versatility, fun factor, sleeper status, tunabilty. When I was with VW, we had some 7 figure customers that bought them as their daily driver, and had their 911/Boxster/Vette.... whatever, for weekends only.
There are amazing cars out there that can be had well under 30k. A lot of guys buy a BMW because it's a BMW, not because they like the car. I had one, and loved the drive, but I still felt totally out of place in it. Once I went back to a GTI, it felt like an old pair of comfortable shoes to me. The car kinda defines my attitude towards cars. Under the radar, affordable, fun as hell, built to last. And there is absolutely no shame in driving the car. TBH, even if there was, I wouldn't care.

I'm getting older so I wanted to get something luxurious to cushion my butt. I also wanted to move upwards on my HP obsession. I started with a car that had 98hp lol, and moved all the way up 330hp, ready to make the next jump. Jaguar seems to fit a person my age, and they've got plenty of performance too.

I can totally relate, in my youth I lusted german sports sedans of the late 80's to early 90's. So decided to get the car I really wanted when I joined the workforce. High performance German sedans of that era are to me like 60's muscle car's are to my fathers generation.
Currently I am enjoying this...1992 Mercedes 500E. Jointly built by Porsche and Mercedes.

Crapballs, that's one of my dream cars. Missed out on buying one by mere hours last years (maybe you were the one who bought it, ha).
How are you finding it?

Status symbols are one thing but there is a lot to be said for the enjoyment that comes from driving a 500 hp beast.
I drove GT-R on a track in Vegas and it was probably one the best experiences I've had in my life. It's one thing if cars don't excite you but if you're a guy like me, then it's not even a question what I'd devote the most money too. I'd live in a relatively worse house for example, if it meant I could afford a dream car (along with vacations and just overall more disposable income). Terrible financial outlook but I don't care. It's what we car guys love.

Absolutely loving it. I had a W211 E55 AMG with Renntech Stage III kit prior to getting the 500E, and although the E55 totally blows the doors off in straight line acceleration, it doesn't have that "feel" of hand built genuine german goodness that this does.
Great history on the 500E's as I'm sure you know. It's an ongoing project (ie $) to get the car totally sorted out, but its a labour of love.

Sounds awesome. If you're ever thinking of parting with it, definitely let me know. That generation of Mercedes, when everything look like it was chiselled out of granite, has long been on my list. I saw a show-room quality 500e last summer in Long Island that was beautiful...unfortunately because of the quality, it's value was quite high.

Will do Table 5.
Totally agree..Mercedes of that era, when engineers still called the shots not accountants...and before the Chrysler disaster...are built to last. Now if I can just score a 1993-95 Porsche 928 GTS as a stablemate.

I can relate to loving the power, but one of the best car experiences I had was in this thing:
I did a driving school on Ghost Lake this winter, and my instructor happened to be a young rally driver who brought his stripped out and rally-tuned Corolla sr5 along. At the end of the day, he gave me a ride in this thing. It was honestly one of the most awesome experiences Ive had in a car...barreling across a lake in a totally stripped Toyota that sounded like an echoing thundering monster inside.
Just pure awesomeness.

Get out of my head! A 928 is another dream car of mine, that I almost pulled the trigger on as well last year (I was clearly on a mission).
Did you happen to catch the 928 convention, Sharks on Ice, in Kananaskis last summer? It was great for ogling. I took a few photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/thomas...7645976085085/

Very nice pics! I was out of town last year when this was going on, otherwise would definately have tried to attend. Love the 928...would gladly take a GTS over a Panamera anyday.

Thanks!
At 22, I was an IT Manager for a now-defunct company that specialized in human resources and contracting. These days, I work for Microsoft, specifically working on Lync Server / Skype for Business.
Not having kids definitely helps. Also, don't buy new - let someone else take the depreciation, and buy a used, low KM example. By 37,xxx KM, all the crap that goes wrong on these Astons has gone wrong largely, and you get a properly working car... except for my haunted driver's side wing mirror when you use the memory button, but eh.

Wow, Texans are weird...

Add me to the German Camaro "I shouldn't want one, but I really really do." 928 club. I'll never forget the first one I saw on the Transcanada hwy as a kid, and seeing that sweet, delectable bubble butt on that car. It looked alien, but so cool.
