Holy fata. I just lose my mind over it. It truly baffles me how incompetent people are. The combination of a cell phone driver being stopped at one of these, and subsequently causing me to stop, would probably push me over the edge into "smash window and beat ###### with his own cellphone" territory.
I am with you here - this one gets me going as well. It always seems to happen to me at the westbound Glenmore --> northbound MacLeod transfer. ARGH!

I could not agree more. Doesn't matter how good of a mood I'm in, someone stops at one of these and I'm instantly screaming "YOU'VE GOT YOUR OWN FKKING LANE! GO!!!" Followed immediately by the pull up next to them, glare like I am going to murder their family, mouth the words "You're a *expletive deleted* ######, and then drive off.

Haha! This happened to me in the worst way at WB Heritage onto NB McLeod a few years ago. The bloody ###### in front of me stopped even though there's a HUUUUUUUGE LOOOOOOONG lane in front of him. I lost my sh1t and went around him honking and getting all road ragey on him... So as I boogeyed up the lane, the NB traffic had stopped and he booked it up the lane he was waiting for to flip me off back, and in retaliation, I made all kinds of ###### gestures such as smacking my chest with the side of my hand with cross eyes and my tongue hanging out... Oh, I guess you had to be there. It truly infuriated him and it had me and the woman in stitches for days.

Wow. I'm actually calming down about driving (though I'm sure the CP collective doesn't believe that). But I still just can't handle blatant incompetence. I mean, in other countries you're lucky if there's a sign or a traffic light to decide who has the right of way. Around here there are thousands upon thousands of signs on all our roadways and STILL people cannot comprehend them. They're PICTURES! It's not like they're paragraphs: "You have your own lane, good sir. Please proceed and merge before the 300 meters runs out". It's a fracking picture of your own lane!

BLARGH!!

Lol. This quote reminds me of the little story I just told.

South-bound Deerfoot today around 6-6:30 was nuts, but I was really impressed how more and more people seem to be getting the idea of letting gaps open up so that even if you don't ever use the gas everyone can avoid the accordion effect.

But for future reference,

DO IT WHEN THERE IS ACTUALLY A FREAKING ACCIDENT!

WTF?

There was no reason for today's jam. Seriously, wtf?

Last week I was driving east in Montgomery on the number one. No left turning lanes through there so when someone stops to turn left the traffic behind them backs up. I was stuck behind it like many others in this one particular instance. I watched for my chance and merged into the far right lane. Gunned 'er and immediately had to come to a dead stop as a girl decided proper merge rules didn't apply to her and that she was allowed to go even if it meant possibly tearing off my front quarter panel. I managed to avoid her by an inch or two, but worried in the process of doing so I'd get rear-ended. I drove up beside her after getting around the ensuing mess and she was sitting there looking straight ahead giving me the middle finger. Awesome!

What I would really like to see is the Calgary City Police get out there and ticket dumb ass drivers for doing stupid and dangerous acts. Not sitting in a van down by he river taking your mug shot with photo radar.

People are never going to learn to improve their driving habits and skills by getting tickets in the mail. And holy crap do some people need to to improve. I'm really starting to believe that traffic school should be mandatory for every license holder.

Mandatory driving school should have been implemented ages ago. There has got to be a few millions to be made in there for the local economy somehow. The offset in emergency response services and reconstruction would easily cover the cost of the classes.

I've been highway driving a lot this summer in BC, and am really sick of slow people in the left lane. No matter how many signs say "keep right, except to pass" or "slow traffic stay right" there's so many dumb people who can't figure it out. Sadly, the amount of these people with Alberta plates is extremely high too.

I'll admit I merge sometimes when a yield sign is posted. But, in these cases, the Yield sign is totally meaningless, since you have your own lane to drive in, where you can accelerate to speed, and then do a lane change.

A yield sign is meaningless if it's impossible for there to be anyone in the lane that you drive into to yield to.

Examples: 16th Ave Eastbound to either 36th or 52nd Northbound; McKnight Westbound to Deerfoot Southbound.

What I don't get is how the left lane of Deerfoot can possibly stop (unless there was an accident). I mean, in theory, that should be the free-flowing lane with all the people entering and exiting sticking on the right. But I guess in theory doesn't take the "idiot driver" into consideration, so hence we have traffic jams daily on the Deerfoot even though there are no accidents.

Another thing that shows me the person is a complete ###### and doesn't know how to drive are the people who constantly tap their brakes. I mean, learn how to freaking drive you stupid noob!

Actually, someone's POS Rav4 broke down in the left hand lanes just north of Glenmore, and Carmacks decided the safe thing to do is to close the entire lane until a wrecker could come and tow this piece of sheit.

The problem there is the ######s who try to cut across four lanes of traffic on one of Calgary's busiest roads to turn into Chinook. Evidently they are too stupid to take Centre --> 61st, which gets them in lickety split. It doesn't help that the city was too stupid to build an access from WB Glenmore to 5th Street.

Stupid moronic left laners. These a-holes that think that since they're going the limit, they're perfectly ok to drive in the left lane. If I were Emperor, I'd feed them to the lions.

Point a) Rucking feetards. OMGZZ!!1! There's an accident on the other side of the road!!1! Maybes I can see a ded body if I slOOOOOOOOOw the fata down and look!!

point b) brake tappers are just strugglers that wear their ######ation on their sleeve. They're everywhere and we just have to live with them. As much fun as it would be to murder them, it's kinda illegal.

Wow...

What I find strange is that every time I read this thread, my stress level goes up as I remember Calgary drivers. I'm just glad to say that I don't run into any traffic jams or idiots who don't know to keep right or how to merge around here because we don't' have any merge or dual lanes.

The north onto Macleod Trail from Glenmore gets my vote for most often misunderstood merge lane. I can't even remember how many times some clown in front of me STOPS right there. And then won't go til there is 3 clear lanes and they can cross all 3 to get to the turn lane into Chinook...arrrrgghhh SO frustrating.

And I'd also like to thank the clown drinving the 770 Q107 van who pulled the u-turn on 52nd street yesterday...against a red light, in front of oncoming traffic and then preceded to drive straddling the lane divider, taking up two lanes. Oh and once you finally chose a lane...thanks for drifting into the lane and the space that my truck was trying to occupy. Dude...the name of the company you work for is plastered all over that van...use your head, quit driving like a tool!

I find NB MacLeod on to Glenmore eastbound is ######ed, there is a yield sign folks, use it, meaning stop and look then go if clear.

I've seen plenty of confused people yield or try to merge into heavy traffic from SB Deerfoot --> WB Glenmore, despite the obvious fact that the lane continues for about 5km. One fataing moron actually stopped right in the middle of that merge lane to pull out a map. He was rather surprised that I was laying on the horn and gesturing him to get the hell off the road.
