I have to admit I liked seeing Jeter tie Mantle on the all time Yankee hit list. I hate the Yankees but can't bring myself to hate Jeter.

Starting out with a 4-3 record on this trip is pretty good. Even if they lose the next two, 4-5 on this road trip isn't bad. Win another game and 5-4 on this road trip is a very good record. Previous Blue Jay teams would have come back with a 2-7 record and find themselves needing to string together a few wins to get back into it. This team will still be in it when they get home no matter what happens from here in.
Seems like this group of platoon type guys all seem to really be playing for each other and doing a few more things. They've managed to get a skeptic like me even a bit excited.

I'm opposite. I hate him and think he's one of the most overrated Yankees of all time. He's such a smug @ss. Hate the guy as much as Roger.

Alex Rios needs to get his head out of his ass.
It's become too easy to call a Rios ground-out in any situation with runners in scoring position.

Jays are pouring it on in 5th now. 5 runs already after back-to-back 2 RBI hits from Stairs and Overbay to make it 7-2
Stairs has 4 RBI in the game.

And now it's 7-6.
The Jays have left a ton of men on base today, AGAIN. Could easily be 12-6.
I fear for the outcome of this game...

The Yankees have done the same though. It's just one of those games.

Okay so i grew up watching the expos and NL ball, again Rolen on third base...nobody out, i get it go for the sac fly, i'm not sure if overbay was trying and just sucked. But then, why isn't barajas bunting down the third base line on the squeeze. I get it, AL is all about the long ball, but man you gotta manufacture runs. Someone please explain

2 runs to work with, ahead in the count 0-2, and he throws The Steroid Machine Giambi a freaking slow-motion slider in the middle of the plate.
Someone should have told him we're not playing beach volleyball.
Time to call up League, or get Accardo back in there. BJ just hasn't been the same this season.

Lol @ the Jays. Same thing every year. The hype is there in April and then they go fudge it up every year. One year it's the bats, the next year the pitching. Same old story.

It's simply poor pitching. With 2 outs and an 0-2 it's simply unacceptable for the pitch to even come close to the plate. I understand you're going to miss sometimes, but you can't miss when you're up 0-2 on a guy. That ball should've been off the plate and if it misses it goes into the dirt.

Horribly ignorant post.
The Jays were below .500 in April and 10 games above .500 in May.
In spite of the blown save they're still 6th in the conference. There's no reason to write the Jays off because of one blown save.

he's been missing spots and giving up hard hit balls since he came back, so this was pretty much inevitable.

Where do you think Barajas wanted that slider? I sure hope he didn't get exactly what he asked for, but I seriously doubt it, especially after the confusion on the pass ball. Having him behind the plate has led to a noticeable improvement in pitch calling (although Zaun is close, the others were far behind, besides Sal).
BJ just doesn't have the velocity to make his style effective anymore. He used to blast those hard sliders past guys and get looking SOs on 0-2 counts (although maybe a little more low and outside, and with no one on base). He doesn't have the power, and he has been around long enough that guys have a good idea that BJ is going to put it over the plate 0-2 (case in point Giambi). I think calling for a new closer is rash, lets remember BJ is coming off a Tommy Jon (and went 8 for 8 in saves to start the year). If he goes out with Arnsberg and fine tunes his strategy to have a little more finesse he will be fine. It's not like his location has been that bad, he just needs to realize he can't challenge guys the same way he could 2 or 3 years ago. Hopefully he is still recovering a little bit and his velocity will get a little a higher, maybe 2-3 MPH.
I don't know if you were expecting BJ to be 10-10, but I was figuring about an 80-90 percent by the end of the year, a number which would improve as the season went on. Do you seriously think Accardo or League would be 9 for 10? I doubt it.
As for the terrible RISP play, I don't even want to touch it. I tried so hard to stay off the Anti-Gib bandwagon, but somehow managed to get a stray bandwagon rope wrapped around my neck, a rope which was slowly dragging me to death. I'm going climb up that rope. FIRE THE GIB! FIRE HIM SOON JP! I AM SICKING OF COUNTING GAMES BLOWN BY TERRIBLE DECISIONS! If I had a better memory I would probably be twice as pissed.
Beyond that, it was not that bad of a trip, and it will be good for the boys to get home and maybe string together a couple. If the Bsox sweep TB I think the rays might cool off, giving the Jays an OK shot at the Wild Card.

It's not an ignorant post. I'm a Jays fan. I was just saying it's frustrating year after year seeing how they fall short of the post-season because they do have the potential to get in every year. Games like today obviously won't effect the absolute outcome(as in 1 game), but it's games like today that determine winning the WC or missing out by a few games. It seems the Jays shoot themselves in the foot more so then other teams because of losses like this. They play in a division with Boston/NY so it's a daunting task as is. Blown chances like this can't keep happening.
