As someone who has Matthew Good, Bright Eyes, and Trail of Dead among his favourite bands/musicians, you'd think I'd have no problem with unique voices, like Meloy's.

But I can't bloody stand it.

The new album sounds really cool, though - the little bit I've heard.

Yep, haven't been able to get it out of the cd player yet. Strangely enough I was channel surfing last night, put on Letterman and there was Marianne Faithful covering the Crane Wife.

The Thermals have a new LP coming out on April 7th. I love their new single "Now We Can See".

That Brother Ali EP is pretty great.

Also, just picked up DOOM - Born Like This

Listened to the first half on the bus earlier and it is, of course, magnificent.

Doves, Kingdom Of Rust [77 score]:

http://www.metacritic.com/music/arti.../kingdomofrust

By expanding their repertoire, taking a few risks, and nailing those harmonies, they’ve made what feels like the first great British album of 2009. - Uncut

Bob Mould, Life And Times [8/10 - allmusic]:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...0:wifyxzw0ldte

This is Mould's purest pop since Sugar, its ballads surging with grace and its muscular songs built on skyscraper hooks. As immediate as Life and Times isn't nearly as diamond-hard as Copper Blue, which is a great part of its appeal: it flows naturally, the music never pushes, it settles, comfortable in its own skin.

Not really a CD release but some very interesting notes about the future of the music biz from Trent Reznor. He really wants to change the whole industry, even if he fails doing so and inspires the big record labels to change, he sounds happy (if you can ever call TR happy) to know he might be making a difference.

I don't know where else to post this, but this is a great rock and roll story about a Butthole Surfers show in Trenton NJ:

An Oral History of May 3, 1987: The Day The Butthole Surfers Came to Trenton, New Jersey
http://therumpus.net/2009/03/how-did-it-comes-to-this/

Mickey Ween: A security guard came onstage and Gibby threw the alcohol on him. The dude just started backing away, it was clear that Gibby probably would set him on fire. And now, knowing Gibby like I do, it was definitely within the realm of possibility.

Randy Now: Of course after that, we could never book them again. We told their booking agent what happened—they started a riot onstage, tried to set a security guard on fire. I’m not sure if told them about the naked women.

Im surprised no one has mentioned that the Tragically Hip has released their new album yesterday. I really like it, but I can see some Hip fans not liking the different sound. It has some very nice tunes, and proves why they are some of the best songwriters in Canada.

It is called "We Are the Same".

I'll be picking it up - I'm one of those rare people that prefers the new records to the old ones.

I ordered the We Are the Same bundle, which includes a live album! I hope it comes today!

Some of the songs I've heard sound really good from the album. I really like Coffee Girl and The Struggle Has a Name in particular!

"Hello coffee girl, beautiful and disaffected!"

We are the same is a great album. Been listening it for the last two days...definitely not the classic hip sound but I'm a fan. I'm pumped for their shows in September.

I'll be getting it. I've read that it is a departure for them. Frankly I'm glad, I hate it when bands start banging out the same record time and time again or try to re-capture some type of old glory when they are older.

Gord Downie's lyrics are always a point of interest for me, so I'll want to check it out for that if nothing else.

The only thing that I have reservations is that it is produced by Bob Rock. By and large I can't stand his production.
