Well, it was shaping up to be a dissection of where Gondek went wrong in her term, including some of the aspects that were generally regarded as weak and ineffective with the population. Of course, some people can't help themselves and now we're at ... well, whatever this is.

I know it may seem like someone talking about how easy it is for them to carry and remember things can seem like grandstanding or looking down on you, but I assure you that wasn't the intent.
I think neurodiversity is pretty awesome tbh. Just so many different, creative ways of experiencing the world and interacting socially.
A good lesson that what might be easy and "basic" for some isn't for others and may present some unique challenges we should be respectful of.
|
Yeah, using neurodiversity as a passive-aggressive and thinly-veiled insult just makes your post kind of reprehensible, ceding whatever sort of high-ground you thought you had with your reusable bag mastery. [shrug]

We have about 30 re-usable bags in our house. We do our best to re-use them as frequently as possible. I don't know if we've achieved the goal of re-using each one 10 to 20 times though.

Yeah, I thought you have to use those reusable boxes from Safeway/Home Depot literally several thousand times to make it worthwhile. They are our go to thing to use for groceries and Costco, certainly handy.
But no way that they'll last for that many uses. But hey, if that's what the crusaders want . . .

I remember the law was overturned as 'unconstitutional', but the GoC managed to get the decision stayed while the appeal was underway. This article is the latest I've seen on the matter, which, tl;dr: nothing new to report. It's still before the Federal Court of Appeal.

I do wish paper bags would be common place as opposed to those crappy plastic bags. Those things tear so easy which means they are breaking apart in the environment and sending microplastics out and about.
We should be focused on that.

This is a great example of the kind of thing I was referring to.
A post acknowledging that neurodivergent people can interpret things differently, apologizing, and that it’s good to remember we take some things for granted is “passive aggressive and insulting” and back to back posts where I say I’ve figured out the reusable bag thing by keeping them in my truck and carry stuff in my hands when I forget is an attempt at achieving the “high ground” with bag “mastery.” I find those interpretations pretty surprising.
Genuinely sorry you took the post that way and think it’s reprehensible, that’s definitely not how I want to land and I’m sorry for offending you. Is there an edit that would fix it?
I truly just don’t think about reusable bags much and know and love a lot of neurodivergent people and have really come to appreciate how they think, and this was a good reminder that you can’t just assume something thinks the same way you do.
Funny how a conversation about bags can go, isn’t it?

Oh f-cking stop. You can't open with "triggered" and "colourful friends" then act baffled that anyone would see textbook PepsiFree condescension instead of genuine empathy, we've all known you for too long.

Sorry man, I guess you’re right but outside of terminally online RW “triggerrrred!” references most of the spaces I travel in use it pretty commonly and non-offensively. Not sure how “colourful friends” was received negatively but I’ve edited the post regardless. Let me know if that’s less offensive or at least reads less insulting/passive aggressive. Happy to edit again if not, no sweat.

Not a neighbor, live far away and rarely see this acquaintance.
I've tried, but some people just don't want to put in the effort at all. I'm not begging them to get those bags out of the bin. I have bigger personal problems to put my energies into.
