Different era- those high scoring players weren't given enough opportunity to succeed and/or their games didn't translate.
What you should think is that there isn't even a NHL Hall of Famer that touches the season that Parekh is putting up.

A few other "what if" cases in there too, like Bryan Fogarty should have been amazing but drug/alcohol problems ruined his career. Then a lot of those huge points seasons were 20, 21 year olds too, not the 18, barely 19 year old Parekh we've seen dominate this season. We have something special here.

7 goals scored by Saginaw but no apples for Zayne. Could have had Gordie Howe if he had an assist to go with his goal and fight

And possibly more so. This was also true back in the 1980s, when the NHL was filled with defencemen whose childhood hero was Bobby Orr. Then the game changed, and the league filled up with goalies whose childhood hero was Patrick Roy (and coaches who all wanted to be Jacques Lemaire). Now we're back to the mobile five-man attacking unit again, but this time with good defensive systems and scientific goaltending; and to me at least, that's great hockey.
I remember when the Bruins made the SCF twice in three years with Ray Bourque on defence, Cam Neely on the wing, and 16 plumbers. On the 1990 team, the #1 C was Craig Janney, who was a good two-way player but couldn't hold a candle to Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier, Yzerman, or even Gilmour at his best. But Bourque on the blue line made every other player on the team that much more potent.
I think Parekh has that kind of potential. We'll see if he lives up to it.

so one think I'm sort of wondering, but don't know it its been discussed or even how to confirm further (if feasible)
I'm sort of wondering if Parekh is already the OHL career leader in even strength goals by a dman?
Per Quant hockey there are 4 guys ahead of him in career goals (he won't catch any of them this year, but should catch all of them if ends back in the OHL next year). for 2 of them we have PPG data, the other 2 we don't
1. Andre Benoit 324 (!) games 99 goals (42 PP, 5 SHG 52 ES)
2. Wideman 292 games 96 goals (50PP , 3 SHG, 53 ES)
3. Slaney 198 games, 94 goals (PP breakdown not available)
4. Rick Corriveau 260 games, 93 goals (breakdown not available)
5. Parekh 174 gp 86 goals, (23PP, 3 SHG, 60 ES)
now I don't know about PP time for 3,4 but given the era etc, I'm guessing they got their share- 23 is just a really low number for Parekh
2 other players enter the mix for goals if we bring in the OHA, you may have heard of them (Ian Turnbull is 3rd in OHA with 80)
1. Orr 159 games 101 goals (yes that's crazy and he was in NHL by 18)
2. Potvin 254 games 95 goals
So I guess, in brief. ? is Parekh already the OHL leader in even strength goals by a D and if Parekh has to return to OHL next year , all he needs is 15 goals to pass everybody in OHA/OHL (all the way back to Orr). Potvin didn't go NHL til 20 (draft rules at the time)

I was trying to figure out how excited I should be about Parekh. On one hand, he's doing something which hasn't been done since Orr (blow my mind exciting). On the other hand, their's lots of names in the upper echelon of historic OHL dmen who are less exciting, like Ellis. Nothing against Ellis, but tough to balance between Orr and him. I thought I would look at NHLe of the current top guys in their D+1 years (NHLe derived from Dobber's Frozen Tools);
Z Parekh (as of today) NHLe = 46
Q Hughes = 28
C Makar = 39
R Dahlin = 20 (He didn't have a D+1)
A Fox = 26
L. Hutson = 40
Z Werenski = 27
E Bouchard = 31
V. Hedman = 24 (He didn't have a D+1)
J. Morrissey = 20
In short, I've decided to be pretty excited.

I think Makar's NHLe in his D+1 year was 20 and it was his D+2 year he had an NHLe of 39?
That should only make you more excited.

To Jump off of Leeman4Gilmour's post. Here are the NHLe for the draft year and D+1 for each of the "big 6" dmen that were talked about ad nauseum for the 2024 draft. (Taken from Dobber's Frozen Tools) Parekh and Dickenson with the most improvement year over year.
Parekh - Draft =39, D+1=46
Buium - Draft =43, D+1=41
Dickenson - Draft =27, D+1=42
Levshunov - Draft =25, D+1=18
Silayev - Draft =12, D+1=14
Yakemchuk- Draft =27, D+1=24

If Parekh stays with the big club next season and actually can be impactful, the tank crew that's upset with Wolf being so good already and costing the team a chance at a top 10 pick are going to have even more reason to be angry!

If the Flames make the playoffs and go on a bit of a run past the first round I wonder if we could see a repeat of 2015 where Bennett played in all 11 playoff games and burned a year off his ELC could Zayne join the Flames for the playoffs and give them a boost?

Parekh did this in his 18 year old season. I cannot stress how impressive this season has been. You are right to let yourself be excited.

Round 1 of the OHL playoffs runs March 27-April 8. NHL regular season ends April 17. As he’s already under contract, a first round exit for Saginaw would make him available to join Calgary to start round 1. If Saginaw goes on a run, it’s unlikely.
