They've lost a lot of firepower up front over last season... Coronato, Pelletier, Duehr, even Klapka in parts...

All 4 of those guys were ppg or very nearly ppg in the A. It should come as no surprise the team is struggling without 4 guys pushing that kind of pace up front.
I just looked at the forward group currently on the roster and it is dire. Kerins, Stromgren, rookie Honzek, some capable veterans and some guys who aren't likely to be anything at all to fill out the roster.
It's a gap in the pipeline from our previous period of having fewer draft picks. It will look better in a couple of years when the team adds Gridin, Basha, Battaglia and Misa from the 2024 crop and whoever comes in this draft will follow them to fill things out.

Wranglers lose a very important game against Tucson, 3-2. Kerins with both goals, Tullio and Aspirot and Stromgren with assists. Ignatjew with 17 saves.
Calgary is currently in 6th in the division, with 7 teams making the playoffs. Tucson currently holds the last playoff spot, 4 points back, and the two teams play again tonight. Bakersfield is 5 points back with a game in hand, and lost last night to red-hot Abbotsford.

Wranglers squeeze by Tucson 4-3 thanks to a 4 point (2 g 2a) night by Rory Kerins! Sam Morton also had a pair of goals while Ty Tulio contributed 3 helpers. Cooley with the win.

The win puts the Wranglers 6 points up on Tucson, with both teams having 6 games left. Bakersfield is 7 points back with 8 games remaining, but none of the teams below Calgary have been particularly hot of late, making the playoffs likely.

Morton and Kerins! stepping up big time on the day Aydar Suniev was signed.
It would be nice to see Honzek and Stromgren do the same.
I don't want to see Stromgren pouting down the stretch here. Remember, he was seemingly disciplined and healthy scratched (along with Poirier) by Joe Cirella awhile back. Stromgren developing an attitude problem would NOT be a good thing.

it would just be their luck to drop so far in the standings and still end up playing their kryptonite, Coachella Valley in the first round.
#3 plays #6 and #4 plays #5 in the Pacific division 1st round
Coachella is currently #4, Wranglers are #6, but both are close enough that either of the two scenarios could play out

Remind me how it works… Honzek was able to join the Wranglers and played a playoff game after his season was done last year. Would all of our CHL players be playoff eligible? Suniev would not because he signed from the NCAA. If Sergeev signed a pto could he play?
I get they typically go with the guys that got them there but I feel like some of our prospects could step in and have an impact, if they were eligible.

Sergeev would have to do what Jacob Fowler just did in Montreal: sign an ELC starting in the fall, then sign an ATO with the AHL affiliate for the rest of the season.
CHL draftees can sign an ATO with the AHL affiliate once their CHL season is over, even if they return to the CHL next year.

Wranglers defeat Ontario 3-1, thanks to goals by Tullio (Kerins. Morton), Wilkie (Aspirate, Solovyov) and Kuznetsov (Morton).
Cooley with the win.
Wranglers improve to 34-26-4-5 and within sight of playoff qualification.

Wranglers lose the rematch, 3-2.
Kerins and Honzek with goals, assists to Frk (2), Poirier, and Stromgren.
Cooley with 26 saves.
Wranglers are 9 points up on Bakersfield, who play 7th-place Tucson today after losing to them yesterday. If Tucson wins again, (edit: Tucson did win) Bakersfield would have 6 games to make up 9 points, and right now both San Jose and Tucson are between them and Calgary anyway.

I like that they are trying Honzek at center.

When did they go back to this? They tried earlier in the year but I thought that was a failure and they moved him to wing pretty quickly.

The AHL doesn't release faceoff stats, but the Wranglers only played 11 forwards, and Honzek was part of the starting lineup along with Frk and Stromgren. Of those three, it's probably a safe bet that he started at center, at least.

Looks like the end of the NHL dream for Waltteri Ignatjew.
https://www.expressen.se/sport/hocke...med-linkoping/
He's got a deal with Linkoping HC of the SHL for next season.
He's joining former Flames Nick Shore and Oscar Fantenberg.
Ty Rattie, former Portland Winterhawk and teammate of Sven Baertschi, also plays for Linkoping HC.
