If Dube's mental health is suffering because he was either part of the assault or helped cover it up. Good. Rapists and Pedophiles deserve zero sympathy and should be buried under the prison. But the man still deserves his day in court.
If Dube's absence has nothing to do with this, I'm pretty sure the Flames would have released a statement by now clarifying it. No differently than "Not substance abuse related" clarifications.
If the Flames Org. has had any part in buying him sympathy and/or misleading the public on this absence they will never see another nickel of support from me and have lost a lifelong 45 year fan. He should have been unceremoniously removed from the roster, nothing more. Simply for "Personal reasons."
I certainly hope this is all a horribly timed coincidence, but I highly doubt it.

Comtois is a player going under the radar atm. Iirc, he was a primary name in the initial findings. Edit: And a player like Formenton who was not offered another NHL contract.

The longer the LPC drag this out the higher the chances the names get leaked. The G&M know the names, I'm sure other press do as well.

He hasn't been charged with anything yet, or even surrendered.
They can't make comments on something that has not happened.

On Reddit it was suggested that a player was called up to the room for pizza, saw what was happening, and then left. As far as I can tell that was a rumour and not sourced to any actual reporting, but could be wrong.

I am just glad that something is being done and charges will be laid. Hopefully this will enact real change. Cover-ups and hush-money accounts not only condone this and similar behaviours, but I argue that it probably even encourages it.
I know that there has been changes made in Hockey Canada (though I am not sure aside from some personnel, exactly what those changes have been or were planned to be), but this certainly will make a large impact - at least I hope it will.

So, my question is whether you think this is something that has happened, and why? Are the Flames "buying Dube sympathy"? How so? Are they "misleading the public on this absence"? Explain, and be specific.

Bear in mind that at this point Dube has NOT yet been charged. On the one hand, even if the Flames know that he will be charged in the next few days, they are almost certainly under restrictions about how much information they can release to the public about his situation, and when they can do so. They appear to have, in fact "unceremoniously removed him from the roster." However, the team is also certainly aware that there is no way they could just do so without any sort of public statement. The public statement they released is pretty matter-of-fact, without much in the way of editorial nuance.

It's actually from an article from TSN
https://www.tsn.ca/hockey-canada/age...room-1.1848359
Quote:
The agent said his client was invited by another player to come to a room in the Delta London Armouries Hotel early in the morning of June 19, 2018.
“My guy got a text message from one of his teammates that there was a party going on with pizza, so he went up to the room,” the agent said. “He did not know how to process what was going on when he saw what was happening in the room. He did not know if this was consensual group sex or if it was a sexual assault.
“It’s true that he did not intervene and say stop. You can judge him for not intervening. What would you do in the same situation when you were a teenager? Is this something he should lose his career and reputation over?”
The agent, who requested anonymity to protect the identity of his client, said the player left the room after about 10 minutes.

The article says he saw what was happening but wasn't sure if it was sexual assault or not, so he left.
So for 10 minutes he stayed, and never heard the word stop?

These kids were 17? 18? I'm not sure I can convince myself that they were there for 10 minutes and weren't sure what to do about what they saw. I understand there are teenage peer pressures to fit in and all that, but yeah, sorry, 10 minutes is a long time. For me.

The article says he was in the room for 10 minutes and couldn't figure out if it was consensual or not. So he saw what was happening. Hard to think he couldn't see what the victim's level of impairment was.
