That's exactly why I said I don't know how fun it would be. I don't mind playing a few times in the winter with my buddies and swinging the sticks, but we're not taking it seriously. It's just to get out and have a few drinks and some fun.

Or get Phil involved so the degenerate gambling goes to extreme lengths (you know Phil is down to lose millions in a night). As is the biggest sell to me is the "round" is much faster than a standard PGA round and they, I guess, will actually enforce pace of play. But as a "serious" event it's just meh, as others mentioned seeing pros play on sims in a normal format has limited appeal.

Yeah, I agree with the general sentiment.
It was ok, but not exciting enough to care or want for more. I think it will flop.
Uniting the field of top golfers is the only thing that will save golf.

I kinda feel like the damage is done and even if there's a reunification it won't stop the bleeding. Whole episode has turned a lot of people off. And a reunification doesn't solve bigger problems like the Cantlays of the world making a mockery of pace of play. Now the PGA does have a silver bullet to play, which is to allow Tiger to basically cheat (at golf) to keep him out there as many weeks as possible. Short of that, don't see bringing the LIV guys back as doing much.

If the PGA doesn't reconcile with LIV soon, tournaments are going to fold. It will get ugly and it will happen fast. TV deals are coming up soon and the networks are going to demand huge discounts.

The field didn't seem that bad. Just missing Scottie due to injury. Rory and a couple other Europeans haven't started in Hawaii in years.
Ratings were probably only down 5ish percent if you normalize for some early season weather problems where they didn't play a round on Sunday or the Waste Management getting delayed to go up against the super bowl. TV declines are simliar or better than other major sports.
Nielsen is incorporating more OTT streaming in their ratings starting this year, and they are saying that PGA will benefit more than a lot of other sports from that (Peacock/Paramount plus carry most weekend golf coverage). They are actually in a pretty healthy and steady space.
Bryson would be the only liv guy who could even nudge the needle for weekly ratings.

Exactly right. Bryson is the only needle moving LIV golfer in terms of watching him play in non majors. And Koepka and Rahm to a lesser extent. I haven't given one thought to Martin Kaymer not being in the field week to week.
Now Bryson is kind of on fire right now with his social media content so maybe by himself he can nudge LIV out of total obscurity, we'll see.
But in terms of quality of the golf in the Tour there is essentially no impact.

TGL's ratings were actually surprising strong, nearly 1 million and it outrated the NBA and College Basketball on Tuesday (also obviously annihilated any round LIV has ever done). We'll see if it holds up, but saving Tiger for week 2 was a smart play so it should probably increase in the near term.

I don't know. I'm still really skeptical because I love golf, and it was so boring. There's just nothing that made that really fun or entertaining to me. I would watch it if there was nothing else on, but that's not a strong endorsement. I think that what will be interesting is what this looks like over time for viewership. People tune in once to see whats happening, but will they come back?

Yeah based on how boring it was I'd imagine a significant percentage of those viewers won't be regular. It was a spectacle that's been hyped up for a year, it was always gonna have the initial interest.

Just saw the delayed telecast. That was awesome for Taylor, can’t believe neither guy in the final group even made the playoff.
He needs a different shirt though. The design looked like patches of sweat.

Taylor with a good follow up to his win. Opening round at The American Express, shot himself a 7 under 65 on the harder Stadium Course.

Final group of Lowry and McIlroy should be fun to watch. I despise Rory so I'm looking forward to hopefully watching him drop the leaderboard today.
