They barely ever mention the Raptors. They will be forced to seeing as how Raptors have pick 31. They should have trade offers but I hope they take Nikola Djurisic.

Four French players drafted in round one is pretty nuts. But there were 21 Americans drafted.

Three of each in the top 10 though.

McDaniels was absolutely horrible last season - don't know anything about Vezenkov, but to get a young servicable backup PG in Mitchell and another pick is great work by Masai and Bobby.

Looks like we took on salary, so a cap dump for the Kings for players we think we can get a bit of use out of.

Weird because on the screen it showed a few guys when announced had ties to France. Something is off somewhere because a lot more were shown.

Lakers are taking Bronny at 55.

This is so nuts. The kid should be nowhere near being a draft pick ... only 60 picks every year, and one deserving kid doesn't get drafted today because of politics and nepotism.

They could have just signed him as a UDFA too, but LeBron really must have wanted him to get drafted.

Really nice day for the Raptors... definitely injected a lot of upside into the bench. Not really much point in analyzing the depth chart now, might as well wait to see what happens with Brown/GTJ. But there is a glut of guards on the roster right now.

Quickley/Mitchell/Shead
GTJ/Brown/Walter/Agbaji
Barrett/Dick
Barnes/Vezenkov/Boucher/Mogbo
Poeltl/Olynyk/Chomche

(that would be 15 guys on standard contracts as it's rumoured that Shead's contract is a standard, and just Chomche so far on a two-way, with up to two more two-ways available).

And Barrett and Dick are both probably better suited to SG than SF. I suppose it wouldn't shock me to see them let GTJ and Brown go at this point, and then target some free agents like Naji Marshall and Jalen Smith.

Boucher's obviously not in the team's plans, but not sure it makes sense to trade him unless there's a team that wants him... Kings ended up giving up two 2nds to clear a similar amount of salary.

NBA probably asked them to take as well - a bit of D2 hype and photo opp

It’s not like it really matters if you pick him with the 4th last pick of the draft or sign him after

I mean who cares about Bronny right now, this Kyle Filipowski story is 100 times more interesting and wild.

What a crazy world we’re living in. Quickley 5 years $175M. What a life.

All these contracts are crazy. They are clearly banking on him improving and being an important piece of the core moving forward. I like IQ, but we are definitely at risk of being a good but not great team again, with little cap space to work with.

Hopefully IQ and Barnes can both take a big step forward this season.

Vezenkov apparently not staying in the NBA either or so the rumor goes. Has another year of money though so would have to be a negotiated buyout.

That rumour is out there, but as of two weeks ago there was reporting from his connections and from the Kings that that rumour was false and he intends to remain:

https://hoopshype.com/2024/06/13/sas...leave-the-nba/

I think it's possible that the trade to Toronto is partly doing him a favour to get him to a city that might be more to his liking and a team that might have more playing time for him.

Darko and Vezenkov were also speaking at the same event earlier this week:

I was recently hearing hype of George. Not sure why he deserved that contract. He was streaky since moving to LA. But I guess if you're looking for that final piece...

For Philly, they know Embiid is getting a lot of wear on his body... he's not a guy who is going to have a long prime. The east looks pretty open except for Boston right now, but Knicks, Pacers, and Orlando are only going to get better, so maybe now is the only window for Embiid, so you maximize the ceiling by bringing in the best guy you can, and then just hope for good injury luck.

Though I do think this is the wrong approach for Philly, it's higher risk than they needed. I thought an ideal offseason would have been going after DeRozan, who might have taken a modest discount to play alongside Lowry and for Nurse, and then Kuzma who is on a great value contract, and could likely be had for a couple FRPs. They probably could have gotten both those guys for what they'll pay for George. DeRozan and Kuzma are both highly durable, reliable volume scorers, and that would have helped them get to the playoffs without putting too much of a burden on Embiid. Now, they're faced with the situation where if (when) either of Embiid or George gets injured in the regular season, the offensive burden of the other one increases a lot, increasing injury risk to that player.

I think Morey is the sort of GM who is always just going to swing for the home run, and then when it doesn't work, he'll throw his hands up and say that he did everything he could. And sometimes that will work, but I think the good GMs are the ones that are just always hitting singles and doubles in terms of building asset value, finding pieces that fit together.
