I pretty much agree with the two posts above. Hardcore SW fans view Filoni as some kind of flawless genius who can do no wrong. But as a casual fan who generally only sticks to the live action stuff, he hasn’t given me any reasons to care about any of these characters or where the story is headed, with the exception of Baylan, Shin, and Hera who are at least somewhat interesting.

I get that this is all leading to an eventual movie that will supposedly tie everything together. But as a TV series, it’s not doing a great job of keeping me invested. Only 3 of the 7 episodes so far have been good, while the rest have been sub-par at best. Mando, Andor, and even Obi-Wan are far superior shows IMO. Hopefully we’ll at least get a solid 8th episode and then they can build on it and find their footing in S2.

I'm thinking Filoni needs to stick to cartoons. This show has been plodding and slow and really, just a 'love letter' to his beloved cartoons.

And not a very good one.

Also, I think he needs to get some more women on his writing team or something, because at the moment his female characters are brutal.

And we dont even know if this is building to something bigger, we're assuming it because if it isnt then this is just going nowhere.

Saw one video where they think this is basically building to a movie version of Heir to the Empire, either a single movie or even a trilogy.

Not sure how they could do that without re-casting the original heroes (and plz omg get over recasting, it's FINE), add in Ahsoka and Grogu and Ezra and Sabine and Mando.. Ben Solo.

Just have to get them all to the point where we know they are in the future (i.e. mostly dead or took another whale ride).

I have to say...if that happens...you've gotta take this away from Filoni.

He's too close to these characters, he clearly knows nothing about directing Live-Action and I dont think he's nearly as great as people are making him out to be.

The Filoni directed episodes have been by far and away the best ones.

The Anakin centric episode? Filoni.

Seems a bit dramatic. He might be a bit too personally intertwined with the characters but he's not clueless about directing.

Thats not the point, this whole thing has been his brainchild baby and its going nowhere, doing nothing and largely...his characters suck.

First six episodes were good. Seventh stumbled in a big way.

Ahsoka, Sabine and to a lesser extent Hera could use some work though yeah. None are particularly likable and are a bit flat.

I think the story will go places, just don't know if I'll enjoy following this group of characters.

Baylan is a better anti-hero protagonist at this point and I'd much rather follow him but alas, that isn't possible now.

Favreau needs to get Kennedy and Filoni tied and gagged in the broom closet.

"No...I dont know where they are...welp, best get to work without them!"

That last episode was definitely on the boring side. The big parties all reunite then a bunch of meaningless chases and fights. Odd to have so much filler in a series that is so short.

I think they were trying to show how hard it is to escape Thrawn. It all seemed like there were no stakes though.

In part due to plot armour, level titanium..

Most of the characters are untouchable.

If any character has a remote chance of being so, it'll be Ezra.

Its funny you mention that, the one that annoys me the most is Sabine.

Her armour is blaster and lightsaber proof....but she's only got like a chest-plate, some shoulder plates and some forearm plates? And theres ENORMOUS gaps between them...but she only ever gets shot in those very specific areas.

Oh yeah! And she never wears her helmet.

Who needs real armour when you've got 'plot armour' like that?

I like that at this point, even if she's taken off guard by a trooper like last episode, she can throw up her wrist plate in time to block blaster shots.

Pretty impressive for a character that's mostly force inept.

(Meanwhile most of the jedi order was gunned down by troopers in O66..)

I like how they probably made a point of making her the anti-Rey to win favour back with fans, but have compensated for that with super invincible mandalorian stuff. To the extent that now Mandos can hold their own and even fend off Jedi.

(Don't nitpick, don't nitpick, don't...)

For someone who seems to dislike the show, you post a lot in this thread.

We've seen Qui Gon and Han Solo both take sabers to the gut fatally. But we've also seen Sabers turn metal red hot which means the temperature of the blades piercing the bodies should have exploded them, instantly turning the water content in their bodies into steam.

Perfectly typical of a Star Wars fan, no? Can't watch enough Star Wars shows yet complains about every moment.
