I meant for prospective talent that we never got to see.
I worded that poorly

Brundle was not good as a pbp guy. He’s much better as the colour guy.
I also don’t think he and Coulthard were BFFs. Could be wrong but they seem kinda catty towards each other.
Too bad that if 2011 Canada happened today they’d just run two laps under SC and call it a day to avoid cancelling and having to refund. The time limits make this kind of scenario impossible nowadays. Hard to believe one of the best races of the last 25 years wouldn’t even have been run.

I vaguely remember that pairing, but I wouldn't have thought it was a full season. Tbf, they replaced Jonathan Legard who did PBP in 2009/2010 and was brutal. He'd basically just repeat the running order over and over and over again, like we didn't have a graphic.
James Allen was fine, but a little melodramatic at times. Imagine 2 hours of Ted Kravitz (who I do love in smaller doses)
Kinda crazy that Crofty has been doing it since 2012.

I seem to recall Alex Jacques calling some races when BBC (I think?) had the rights. Around 2012-2014 maybe? He was always my favourite. I think he does FE now.
I’ll be honest, I never liked Murray Walker and his squeaky voice. But I only watched him later in his career when he wasn’t as sharp. Most of the races I watched on F1TV involve Brundle constantly having to correct him.
Moral of the story, they need to bring back the Chain intro. That song defines F1 for me.

Oh and the Villeneuve/Pironi doc is on crave this Friday. It’s already on the app but that was the first time I could see it on regular broadcast.

My commentators in order:
1. Murray Walker
2. James Allen
3. Crofty
James Allen and Martin Brundle were very good together.

Walker tried to make everything so dramatic. He would lose his mind so often it wasn’t fun to listen to.

I think there were a few years there where both Sky and BBC had the rights...can't recall which TSN would air.
I always like Matchett and Hobbs back on Speed...not a fan of Bob Varsha though.

To each their own, but when TSN switched from the UK feed to the Speed feed they sent out a mea culpa email to beg viewers to stop complaining and the next race was back to the UK feed.

Oh I definitely preferred the UK feed (though certainly not enough to email)...just found Hobbs entertaining and liked Matchett's technical side (at least in the mid 2000s when he wasn't that far removed from it)
Tbf to Speed they were calling it from a studio, which is obviously a lot tougher than having a window to the pit lane.
Back then - when I was still recording early AM races on VHS - I think it was nice to have both channels as you'd sometimes get a replay at a more reasonable hour on one station or the other.

Once Leclerc leaves F1 every article won't include the writer proving that they know "Monegasque" means person from Monaco.

Never knew Guenther Steiner used to be a goalie as a kid growing up in Italy.
