Absolutely shocking how the core from recent years has ended up.

Gio I don’t mind as much because we had to lose someone to Vegas and Gio has seen better days. Mony is a freak of nature accident so it’s largely out of our control.
But imagine where we’d be with strong packages for Johnny and Brodie? Damn I hate to even wonder. Franchise could be set for a long time.
Now imagine ownership didn’t let Tre waste picks on Hamonic.

Having $20m tied up on two wingers is not a recipe for a Stanley Cup. The flames now have one less franchise winger, but also have an additional $10m in cap space. A year from now, Lucic and Monahan will be off the books. And if the flames can target a franchise center, they'll be a stronger team in 2023-24 than they were this year.
|
"Franchise" players almost never go UFA in their Prime, so good luck finding a Franchise center available.
The only way that happens is via tank/draft and the Flames probably wont do that.

Maybe a bit of that, but Trelving also was emotional about talking how good of a player he was, and voice cracked and had to bite his lip.
All sorts of emotions in his head.

Pat's always been a good company man. In his position given how cutthroat his industry is I don't blame him. Last thing the Flames organization and ownership want to hear right now is local media criticizing them for this.

Brad looked deflated through the whole presser. He talked a lot about having a plan and no knee jerk reactions, but I honestly don't think he has a clue what to do tomorrow.
He said they won't be going out to replace Johnny but really what the hell else do you do? Rebuild is off the table (according to many posters here), mediocrity will continue to cripple the franchise and we still have many pieces with value, enough to put us in 13th overall purgatory.

Don’t blame Tre at all. Or the owners.
Johnny ####ed us and can #### off as far as I’m concerned.
Will I be renewing my season tickets? Absolutely. I love the Flames.

Hopefully he’s mad enough that he won’t let the Flames get screwed by Tkachuk too. Make the tough decision, Treliving. Tear the bandaid off.

Tre should, have just forced him to sign. Going UFA is ####ing standard for star players.

That's the game. Flames fans simply haven't been accustomed to many elite players leaving in free agency. Happens every year to a team or two. It's always more fun as a fan from afar in situations like this but when it happens we should remember that a fanbase is getting crushed. This year it's our turn.

If they had traded Gaudreau, that would have forced them into a rebuild. That means no Coleman signing, no Zadorov or Gudbranson, and likely other pieces missing as well.
But since all true and loyal Flames fans want the team to miss the playoffs as badly as possible so they can watch the team lose the draft lottery and maybe get to pick 6th again, what exactly are you complaining about?

Yes, considering the failures of the current core in the playoffs, I have no qualms and believe its the responsible thing to do as a management team to be firm and give him a date to either commit or not and if he doesn't do that you move on. They were coming off a missed playoff year with him last year, they lost twice in rd1 the years prior to that. It may not be the popular decision amongst the masses at the time, but we need leaders who can make tough important decisions like this.
Instead we are stuck with this, losing a player of that caliber for absolutely nothing. We've seen it before with other key members leaving for nothing or diminishing value cause you hold on way to long and get nothing. Its the main reason this team hasn't accomplished much in so very long. I'm extremely disappointed as a die hard Flames fan and it has nothing to do with Johnny, it all has to do with ownership and management.

*Flames organization once again loses assets for nothing (or next to nothing)*
Fans: "This obvious trend is the players fault."
