Well that didnt take long for the internet sleuths to start dragging individuals through the mud with zero evidence other than them being on the roster in question.

Wow, hopefully it's not true about the 2003 team. I went to high school with a couple of those players on that team.

All 8 men present were accused of wrongdoing by the victim though. For Howden to say that there hasn't been a suggestion that he was accused and was not involved is a lot less murky than the the "denies wrongdoing" of others. Still could make it crystal clear like others before him had done.
Which is why it sounds so whiney. "Blanket condemnation" is that true? Makar came out and said he wasn't there and I think that was pretty much that for Makar. He got out of ahead of the thing by denying his involvement without any ambiguity and then appears to have went on with his life. Howden crying that he has to make a statement doesn't garner much sympathy for me. I mean if the public is financing Hockey Canada, they deserve to have answers and that should include who was alleged to be involved, plus just given the accusations and number of people involved, a statement denying involvement isn't exactly that big of a an inconvenience. Especially if it helps reveal who the (alleged) perpetrators actually were.

Brad Pascall was with Hockey Canada from 1996 to 2014. Wonder what secrets he has?

So who hasn't issued a statement?
Batherson and Formenton I don't think have, I've lost track of who else hasn't.

Yeah. Here is an article about what happened to him with direct quotes from his estranged wife.

The first name that stood out to me on the 2003 team is Colin Campbell's son Greg.
Colin got in some hot water for e-mails he sent to the Director of Officiating in 2010-ish complaining that the refs were being unfair to Greg.

Was a simple observation, I guess I used improper wording saying ‘if he was involved’ ; I think even having close hand knowledge of something like that happening would be a pretty hard thing to grapple with and could explain some of the substance abuse issues White fell into though injuries undoubtedly played a key role in that. But apologies for jumping to conclusions if that’s what my post implied, didn’t intend that and should have used better wording.
Also didn’t ‘sleuth’ at all, I remember being emotionally moved by White’s family’s story and couldn’t believe how far he’d fallen; seeing him on the team after reading of this news breaking made me think of the mental struggles being involved or just knowning about something like that would cause.
Apologies to those I’ve offended

The cynic in me is being really critical about Hockey Canada just "issuing a statement". They're probably hoping everyone would think it was an update to the 2018 incident. Surprise! It's new information on a 2003 incident.
Sexual abuse happens in all sports, but it would great for hockey to lead the way in doing what it can to crush any potential for this to happen in the future. I feel like this begins with dismantling Hockey Canada and then rebuilding it from the ground up with a completely different set of core values and responsibilties.

They’re right, probably better that I didn’t speculate especially on subject as polarizing as this; that said my motivation wasn’t so much to drag Ian’s name through the mud but just to see if there is more reasoning behind his tragic breakdown with his family. Mental health is tough to deal with and be open about even with those you’re closest with which is more why I even mentioned White with this news breaking. Hindsight being 20/20 though I should have left speculation at the door on this one. Admittedly a terrible post by myself.

UPDATE - LONDON, ON (July 22, 2022) - As previously shared, I recently directed that a review be conducted into a sexual assault investigation which we commenced in June of 2018 and concluded in February of 2019. The focus of that review is to determine what, if any, additional investigative avenues might be available to us at this time.
A team of investigators were assigned and have conducted a preliminary review. Through this review, they have determined there are further investigative opportunities available to us, and as such, the criminal investigation has been re-opened to allow those opportunities to be explored.
As this is now an active criminal investigation, I am unable to speak further to the matter. Appropriate information will be shared once the investigation has concluded.
At the conclusion of this investigation, we would welcome a review by the London’s Violence Against Women Community Advocacy Group.

Well in the court of public opinion, everyone is guilty by association.
Thank goodness there is actually a legal process to these investigations. Let's not bring back McCarthyism.

I wonder if they talked about 2003 because it was paid out from the same fund, which is now going to be under scrutiny. Getting ahead of the story.

There's a lot of stories now coming out from victims talking about how other players in the Canadian organization did terrible things. I don't think it's a stretch to say that there's a really terrible accountability problem within hockey culture, it seems young Canadian hockey athletes can get away with murder. It's really embarrassing. I had no idea the sport was this incredibly toxic

This is good. This is what happens when people speak up, others are empowered to do so. I have no doubt this type of thing has occurred multiple times over the years. I hope each one is sussed out and everyone involved is fired into directly into oblivion.
