It's his prerogative, I'm just saying I don't think it's wise and if I was him I'd shut my mouth.

Really what's not wise about it?

CTV had already reported that an anonymous tip indicated it was a road rage incident with damage to a car.

CPS confirmed that it responded to a road rage incident and a vehicle had been damaged in a dispute between a driver and pedestrian. They then confirmed that pedestrian was Gian-Carlo Carra to CBC.

Carra's wording will almost certainly be what's in his police statement. The only thing the statement did was give his point of view to squash rumours and spin the PR.

Also CPS not being involved but giving breadcrumbs to media against their number 1 public enemy this month is such bushleague.

The statement is fine. The "tapped with foot" part is a bit silly, but probably technically true despite an imprecise verb. There isn't really any great way to convey "ya I was pissed that they nearly killed my dog so I kicked their car", but I think it makes sense for him to admit/allude to the manner of his involvement instead of leaving us to our imaginations (which would default to something worse).

I'm sure he vetted the statement with a lawyer before he issued it, which is likely why it wasn't issued until today rather than yesterday when the story broke.

I’d probably boot a car that did this to me as well. I’ve had a least 4 incidents in the last couple of years where cars have ripped through a crosswalk while I’ve been in them with my kids. One time it was a police car.

I have booted a car that did this to me.

What works best, I think, is a nice wide open-palm slap to the rear quarter. Very loud but leaves no dents.

Ya, I did that as a guy without signaling or looking in his mirror cut across the lane, forcing me to swerve, and I smacked his car(while evading him) to let him know he almost hit me. Well buddy got really really pissed off, blocked me in, raged about "hitting his car", then had a little toddler tantrum and kicked my front wheel as some sort of retaliation, so I put him back in his place(his car seat) with my front wheel, which was mostly me trying to keep my distance from Mr. insanity. My boss happened to see the last few moments. After that I bought a thunder horn, since cars can't hear bells. Thankfully we have a protected bike lane now, which is 50% better...

I’ve seen a few close calls and it’s 50/50 who is to blame but it’s hilarious how often it’s the person who is in the wrong who gets the most upset. GCC seems like someone who falls in the latter category.

It is extremely rare to be at fault as a pedestrian. You are basing your statement on nothing more than what you want to be true.

Ok. You can think you are right as a pedestrian but you will be dead and the driver won’t be charged. Then you are still dead.

I did this once about 20 years ago when almost being hit by a car.
I slapped the car, yelled, then went on my way.

a couple of minutes later two guys that were very angry threw me up against a building on a busy street in the middle of the day, with tons of people around.

not one person helped me. I haven't hit a car again. being right isn't worth getting assaulted.

The other thing to think about is that you aren't right. If someone almost hits you, yes, they've committed a traffic infraction, that much is true. But you aren't a victim of anything, and damaging or attempting to damage their property now puts you in the wrong too. Something almost happening doesn't afford you the right to damage property in retaliation.

You sure end up with a huge jolt of adrenaline when a car almost hits you, not saying that excuses the response but the fight/flight reaction kicks in pretty quick on most people (myself included in the past, but sadly you get used to being close passed now riding around in this city). Just make sure if I ever get a white bike it looks cool, paint some airplanes and skyscrapers on it.

I got clipped by an SUV around 2008, caught up to the driver and knocked on the window. He opened his door into me, to knock me down screaming at me about touching his car. I couldn't ride for a few weeks after that, and to this day, I have anxiety being near vehicles thinking about that happening again.

Calgary's budget has been audited, and it turns out the city is now awash in a sea of black ink.

Monday, Mayor Jyoti Gondek rejected the suggestion that the surplus meant Calgarians have been overtaxed, saying that was a misreading of the city's financial levers.

That’s surprising, given the severe hit transit has taken in the last two years. How did they make up for that lost revenue?
