Offensive side is off the charts, just let him come off the ice as the puck goes back our way I guess.

Some people were keen on him in the first round, if I remember. Not a bad pick up in the third round.

Poirier's development is in the hands of Greg Gilbert? How could that possibly go wrong......

I am disappointed in this pick. To me, Villeneuve is a far superior player, shoots Right, and has very similar qualities to Poirier without being an absolute liability defensively (though could use some more focus)

That is what I wonder. Button had him as high as 22. Infact the lowest i've seen is 52. This looks like a steal of a pick unless something else is afoot.

Because he's a dman that doesn't play D and seems to have little interest in learning how to.

LOL - they talked Greg Gilbert like that’s going to boost the kid in Flames fans’ eyes.
He sounds like a Kylington.

Maybe they take both?
I actually agree that Poirier may have been a bit overvalued and Villeneuve a bit undervalued but with both available in round three I'd have no problem with taking both and letting them develop together.

Prokop goes next and I would have preferred him too. Poirier will bust, no doubt in my mind.

You answered your own question. Why would they pick the worse of the two?
They wouldn't. They think he's better.

Pick 50 - too much defense, offense not good enough
Pick 72 - yeah he can score but sucks at defense
Do folks not realize that the really well rounded, highly coveted players, get drafted in the early picks, and the rest kind of fall?
What the heck do people expect with a 3rd round pick

Honest question because I haven't....but have you seen either of them play?
I like Villeneuve because I feel like the guy who makes a great first pass, has a great transition game, and is better defensively (based on scouting reports) translates to the NHL better than the flashy guy with a big shot, but I've never watched them to really know.

Smilanic went way later than I thought. I figured high 2nd round maybe..
This draft was topsy turvy from pick #23 . Fun draft to watch IMO. Its all over the joint!
