you reap what you sow. As a United fan, you can't help but laugh at the fact that Harry Maguire is a starter while Jadon Sancho is completely ignored. Poetic justice that Southgate is punished for going against merit.

Lol Maguire again at fault, surely this is it for him, at least for the World Cup.

Nope...he's Southgate's boy.
Most expensive CB in the world.

England simply can't go to Qatar with Southgate after this Nations League debacle. Right? Right?

two terrible teams going at it today ... a far cry from what it could or should be, given it's England and Germany. At least it was entertaining.

I still contend even had they lost England weren't gonna sack Southgate, but he surely is not dumb enough to still be considering Maguire. Like if an injury catastrophe hits then so be it, but he's a walking disaster and probably get little game time between now and November.

Okay, so it wasnt just me. Everything seemed loose and undisciplined.
And no, it would have taken a disaster for England to sack Southgate at this late stage.
They totally should though. All of those players are capable pros, Southgate's tactics are awful, he is still far too risk-averse considering the talent he has available.

I’d be surprised if he’s not starting him for the first game of the World Cup
He just started him in two mean nothing games where they could have taken a look at different defensive set ups. Of course he’s starting at the World Cup (unless he’s hurt)

Yeah, this. These games were really good opportunities for Southgate to really throw some #### at the wall and see if it stuck.
And I mean that in a good way. The group is done, you've been relegated, you literally have nothing left to lose, you're already qualified for the World Cup. Go nuts! Get weird with it.
You've got a game in London, your entire stable of professionals are right there and available for selection.
"What would happen if we played a back 4 and 6 straight-up attacking players and just blitzed the Germans?"
Literally the most meaningless game there is to be played aaaaand....he still tip-toed through it.

The thing about Maguire compared to all of the other CB options is he is really the only guy not getting regular game time at the moment. So meaningless game or not, for him it's meaningful minutes since he doesn't get them otherwise. And, of course, he looked like textbook Maguire. Given how hot that seat is for Southgate, not taking Maguire could actually buy him a little goodwill with the fans. And he needs all the goodwill he can get. Or he'll be a moron and take him and start him and watch him cost them dearly. I'm cool with that lol.
