The only one that matters is McAvi.

How the eff is it only 7 games? He was just friggen suspended a month ago and escalated to this. Way to set the bar.

I'm ok with it. This incident has reminded the hockey world what kind of person Kassian really is. Some things can't be blamed on alcohol and drug use, sometimes you're just a ####ty person.

I can only come to the conclusion the NHL felt Kassain was important for the Oilers playoff drive. I have no doubt that getting McDavid in the playoffs played a role in this decision. The guy just got suspended two weeks ago and gets a slap on the wrist for actions that were incredibly dangerous. We have to remember at the end of the day that the NHL is still a business and they make decisions based on the greater good of the business and in their minds they need the best player in the game to participate in the playoffs.

I hope nobody kicks McDavid like that. In fact I hope nobody kicks anybody with their skate blade ever again because it's an absurdly dangerous thing to do

I think the lesson learnt here is that if you’re mad at someone don’t kick them, just crosscheck them in the throat. Only a fine then.

I kid, pretty stupid play by Kassian, can’t argue with the suspension at all. Surprised it was only that tbh.

If that were the case wouldn't they suspend him longer?

That other view they show in the DOPS video makes it look even worse. That skate could have slid up Cernaks body pretty easily if he had shifted forward or the kick caught with any more force. Just a stupid play that should have been 10+ games. oiler fans will cry that everyone is out to get them but they got off easy on this one.

I was hoping for 10 but was thinking 6-8 so....

Kind of surprised at the mostly level-headed reaction over at HFOil.

7 games is a joke. Repeat offender who obviously doesn't care about his actions at all.

Not sure why I thought he'd get more, the NHL is so poor at handing out punishment.

What the NHL has taught me the last couple months.

Assault = 3 games

Assault with a weapon = 7 games

Good. They’re worse with him in the lineup.

My only concern is for the safety of the players who face him next because he’s gonna hurt someone real bad.

The league had a real chance to send a strong message. Disappointing punishment. I thought for sure he'd get the Simon treatment.

Heard it today, anything with potentially using the skate as a weapon

Just make it 10 games, and ask the player why it should be any less?

For a repeat offender double it
