The team absolutely should have had a statement game in Game 3 after losing a tough one in OT to tie the series. The team got embarrassed instead.
The team then absolutely should have had a statement game tonight, and played about 30 minutes of good hockey, just like they did in Game 2.
The team literally is in a do or die situation Friday at home, and I have no confidence in the Flames playing well. I'm not sure the players do either.

As bad as the last 3 games have been, i have this weird feeling the series ain't over.
Our so called best players made some baby step improvements over last game and obviously need to be much better, but it can still happen especially if this 2012 like version of Mike Smith hangs around.
But Janko and especially Neal can't be in the lineup the rest of the series. If Neal is playing Friday then Peters is barely any better than GG2.0 and we all know a freaking corpse is an upgrade on GG2.0
Oh and Valimaki is a stud, should have been back in the lineup a long time ago.

Gaudreau is a play maker...he needs a big center that drives the play with...if the Flames trade him they will regret it. He just can't carry the team
Leafs fans though Phil Kessel wasn't a winner...then he won the cup and led his team in scoring. Gaudreau is just too easy to shut down when he has to do it all himself

The majority of the time, Monahan relies on Johnny to make the plays. He either goes on a scoring tear or is completely invisible. He's just so one dimensional, and has to be considered for a trade. In my opinion, Johnny needs a more experienced forward/veteran playing as his centre to hold him more accountable and to mentor him along.
Package 23 with Brodie/Kylington for a decent return. Or package him with James Neal for a cap/contract dump.
|
That's my thinking too.
Monahan is a moveable asset, and that Neal contract is an albatross. The Flames have the pieces to make either/both moves happen and strengthen the team overall. There's still a lot of strength throughout the lineup, but they need another top end offensive driver and an out for that bad contract.

I think we watched somewhat different games.
I'd say they were more or less owned in the last 10 min of the 3rd and in the OT, but not otherwise. I was not disappointed in the team that showed up for the most part.
Certain players....definitely I was disappointed in however.

Our team was barely over .500 against playoff teams this year and lot of those wins came from 3 on 3 OT where Gaudreau shines.

Crazy that as bad as we have played we could easily be up 3-1.
Of course because of Smith.
Obviously have all sorts of new respect for him.

I will add that Hamonic has been a warrior, but I think you can start seeing him wearing down.

Man, still absorbing that one..I can't believe after Derek Ryan made it 2-0 midway through the third that it turned out like that, that really felt like it was the clincher. Donkey punch at 11pm on a weeknight..how does one sleep now?

This team is cursed. They will continually lure you in and then break your heart. I am in a bad relationship that I can't leave.

For those of you that have sworn off the Flames in this series, and proclaimed some of our players gone....see you never?
For the rest of the rational fan base - this was a rough loss. You have two games with a late lead, blow both the leads, then lose both the overtime coinflips.
At worst, even with pessimistic expectations we should have won at least 1 of those games. If you do that 100 times we probably win 90 of them. This small sample absolutely bit us.
We will now very much likely lose the series (maybe at best a 15-20% chance we win) but that's why the games are played. Colorado has been the better team and our superior skill hasn't been able to answer their work ethic.

People critiquing BT have forgotten just how bad of a franchise he inherited. This sucks bad, but the fact we are already suffering the pain of what looks like a sure fire disappointing first round exit when we thought maybe the cup was a potential is largely a credit to his good work, not his mistakes.

I trust Treliving and Peters going forward. They made a lot of moves I have disagreed with but they have paid off with such consistency this year that I will support them blindly at least for now.
Hopefully they can have a good draft and get some more talent in the system this summer, and give er another shot next year. Hopefully Gio can beat father time’s ass again and whoever’s in net can be strong.
And please keep Kylington. I have waited too long and cheered too much for him to see him play for another team.

Darryl Sutter was behind the bench for one of the worst collapses I have ever seen from a team in the playoffs in a game 7.
It ain't the coach here fellas.
