Their wildly inconsistent play has made me change my priorities. Most games this season haven't been worth being tired the next morning. That's where I'm at as a fan.
It's crazy how much this describes me. Get out of my head, get out of my head!

the same amount of second round playoff appearances in the last 10 years as the oilers, the absolute worst team in professional sports over that same time frame.

If you can't make the playoffs in a salary capped league...

I just wish the team would do something to shake things up a little. Try some new defensive combinations. Call up a couple guys from Stockton. I don't think the team needs to panic but it is a bit frustrating watching the same things keep happening and very little changes. Maybe we just have to be patient but I don't think a few minor shake ups would hurt.

Yeah, this just indicates that the Flames are one of the worst franchises in the NHL since they've last won the cup. Disregarding expansion teams since then, not much different from the Oilers or Canucks since the team can't yield playoff success.

Seeing it all typed out like that gives it a bit more impact I think. Saying it isn't enough. That's a long, depressing list of playoff futility.

Good God almighty. When you actually step back, it truly is appalling how miserable this franchise is. Minus a couple good teams and years in the mid to late 80's, and a fluke run in 2004, this team is among the worst franchises in the last 30 years. I don't blame fans for starting to give up. How long does someone need to suffer needlessly before they say enough is enough and move on? At what point is the entertainment not worth the ridiculous asking price?

This team has the gull to ask for a publicly funded arena? How about they put a decent product on the ice for a change. We have been subjected to #### for 30 years. Most businesses go out of business if their product sucks for three decades. Yet, the zombies that reside in this city continue to fork out large sums of cash for a ####ty product.

Some days I wish this team would just fold or move away and that a new team would emerge. Maybe it's time to burn the stink off this franchise and start fresh....

Depressing

Almost half the time we don't make the playoffs and almost 90% of the time we don't make it past the first round

All of that in a league where more than half the teams make the playoffs.

With life being so busy and living out east again. Most of the time it's night by the time I check the scores from the previous night. Sometimes I forget to check until the next day even. Definitely quite the step back from my hardcore days years ago.

Despite being one of the worst franchises in the NHL over the past 30 years you have to admit the fans in general are pretty upbeat. Maybe we have simply become so used to this that we are conditioned for the annual disappointments and failures as you don't ever see paper bags over Flames fans heads. Season ticket base is extremely healthy considering the lack of success.

We are down at the moment on the current team but really this mediocre .500 team is exactly the same team we have cheered on for decades with only difference being the cast. It's beginning to look like this organization is simply incapable of finding the right players and coaches and an elite team is simply not in the cards for this franchise. When they have a great coach the talent level is thin (that 2004 Flames were major overachievers) and when there's actually decent talent they don't have the right coach. The organization can never get everything right and the cycles continues to repeat over and over. Depressing but all you can do is hope for better times.

I've been a Flames fan my entire life, but I really started following every game in 96-97. Yikes!

I don't know whether I should thank this post, but it certainly sums up the misery quite well.

Yeah I know what you mean. I so regret all those years I spent driving from central Alberta to the dome with my wife and young son. And the time he sat on Iggy's lap so I could take a picture. And then he met all those other losers, Marc Savard and Gelina and stuff. And the game we spent close to a thousand dollars to watch the flames in the 2004 playoffs against Vancouver, sucked so bad. And now my son is a die hard Flames fan that's subjected to this "joke" of a franchise that can't win anything. I've steered him so wrong. How can I ever repay him.

WTF?!?!?!?!?! Are you people for f$%#ing real??! GTFO if you don't want to pull for this team! Why does this thread even exist here? I've lived and died with these guys since I was ten years old when they came to Calgary. My Dad and everybody around me were oiler fans, I will NEVER, on my worst day, speak about my Flames like this. Sure I'll get frustrated with certain players, (and the odd coach) but at least they've won the cup! At least they haven't pissed away five first overall picks! Would it be better to be a Vancouver fan? Or Washington? Maybe the Sharks? Maybe Winnipeg or Quebec, I'll bet they'd happily take those "pathetic" insufferable years quoted above.

I used to come here because it entertained me and it was an excellent place to keep up on Flames and hockey news. At one time it would make you feel better about a Flames loss because most of the people here would soften the blow and back the Flames, come up with good reasons why you should stick with the team and watch the next game. Lately it has become depressing, case in point this thread.

Normally I scroll through all this negative horse%^$# without reading it. But today it's on a whole other level. I say if you're a fair weather fan then go cheer for someone else. Flames don't need you. If that results in re-location, my guess is most of you would take all those years of missing play offs and losing in the first round to have your team back.

GO FLAMES GO!!!!!

Not to mention we fired the last coach that got us out of the first round.
Sure the team missed the playoffs the following year but the team was still very immature and the goaltending was atrocious.
I used to be jersey on every game, even when watching by myself, no matter where I was in the world. Now my jerseys are 2 provinces away when I am at work and rarely watch the 3rd period as it isn't worth losing the sleep over.

Hey man, just because someone posts in here doesn't make them a fair weather Flames fan. I started really cheering during one of the darkest times, and that didn't scare me away. Why even scroll through a page if you're not reading it? There is no need to be so pretentious.

Love the passion. You're right too. We fans can get caught up in the wrong stuff at times. The Flames have been my team since I was a young boy in Calgary. I wouldn't want it any other way.
