One of the best things about Kylington is the aforementioned patience the Flames can afford to have with him.
Our blue-line is already one of the better ones in the league at the NHL level, and the last few years have bolstered the depth in our prospect pool as well.
No need to label him a Norris caliber defender and throw him in the NHL as a saviour like Edmonton laughably did with Shultz.
With the strides he made as an 18 year old in the AHL, I expect the coaches will continue to work very closely with him this season which is the best thing possible for his development. He has nothing but time.

So, is this your schtick on CP, or...? I've never noticed your posts before yesterday, so it's tough to tell.

Is yours always responding and reacting this way when your contentions are challenged? You've handled it well.

So Doetzel "overwhelmed" Smith and had him " on his back in seconds"?
It was actually a good fight and yeah I was surprised Doetzel hung in there like he did. But c'mon this was no David vs Goliath fight.

Didn't read the article but did Doetzel play after that? I remember Cream Gene fellating him and Pat casually saying he hasn't played since the fight. I also don't remember him after that but Smith had an excellent 3rd in my mind.

The story goes he was suffering from a migrane before the fight. Treated it during the third.

This is why I like Smith and see him still as a legitimate prospect. Goes and sticks up for a teammate, but then contributes in other areas of the game as well. I know a number of posters have crossed him off their lists, but I still look at Smith as a long-term project type of prospect. He has great hands and thinks the game decently enough, and isn't some goon going around trying to injure players.
He has soft enough hands, and of course the size and physicality to be a really good net-front presence. Probably will end up being great in the corners and protecting the puck. Yep, his skating still needs to improve, but he is still developing. If he ends up being a decent 4th liner, or even a third liner who is sound defensively, can chip in with some offence now and then, and brings that difficult to play against game, it will help - particularly in those long playoff series in which the larger and more physical team gets the advantage.
I am not penciling him into a lineup right now, but I am personally not writing him off either. Taking my usual 'wait and see' approach, but there is some skill there and it shows at times. Project pick that may end up paying dividends down the line, and if it doesn't, well at least he is a guy that will continue sticking up for the rest of the Flames' prospects at least in the AHL.

What Monahan/Gaudreau have needed and do need is a power forward who can win board battles, get them the puck, crash the net, pot some garbage goals. A Tkachuk, a Brouwer, a Ferland (if he develops more) is the type of player they need. They don't need a playmaking winger who isn't strong on the boards.
Jankowski is a big, playmaking centre who is good on face-offs. You don't move that type of player to the wing, doesn't make any sense. Big playmaking centres are hard to find and valuable.
If the Flames were to move any of their centres to the wing (Backlund, Monahan, Bennett, Jankowski) then Bennett is the one who's game most suits the wing position. He is strong on the boards, feisty, has outside speed to burn some defensemen. I'm not advocating moving Bennett to the wing but his game suits the wing position a whole lot more than Jankowski's game does. Jankowski is clearly a playmaking centre.

If you haven't watched a wealth of his games in the QMJHL then "anyone who has been watching him" hasn't really been watching much of him.

You don't understand how goalie numbers in the QMJHL look do you? There aren't many goalies putting up 0.920 SV% in that league. Evaluating numbers requires context and you're not using any context at all. Terrible analysis.

I would be fine if they never drafted a goalie again. I'm not convinced anyone in the Flames scouting department has the slightest clue about how to scout for goalies. 100% dud rate doesn't inspire confidence.
There was McElhinney who actually became a legit back up. That's the best this org has to show for in decades, unless I'm missing someone

How stupid can you be? The kid is 19. He has years of development to rein in his game. Wow a lot of idiocy out in full force to start this season.

You know someone doesn't have an argument when all they can respond to is a spelling mistake.
Anyone writing off a goalie at age 20 who hasn't played a full season of pro doesn't know how goalie development works. See Dwayne Roloson. See Miikka Kiprusoff. See Tim Thomas.
Goalies take years to develop. Those fans writing him off right now show they don't really understand goalie development one bit.
