Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie will play two concerts in support of his Secret Path project — a set of songs and a graphic novel honouring Chanie Wenjack.
Wenjack, a 12-year-old Ojibway boy, died from hunger and exposure after trying to find his way home from a residential school near Kenora, Ont., fifty years ago.
Quote:
"Chanie haunts me. His story is Canada's story," Downie said in a statement when the project was revealed. The Secret Path project includes 10 songs, and a graphic novel by award-winning author Jeff Lemire.
The music will be released on Oct.18, and Downie will perform it during two special shows. The first will be at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on Tuesday, Oct. 18 while the second is slated for Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto on Friday, Oct. 21. Times for the shows have yet to be announced.
I wonder, how will the above documentary differ from Long Time Running (which came out in 2017). Maybe just goes back further? I hope we see some additional behind the scenes from the final tour that we haven't yet seen.

From what I’ve read, it’s gonna cover their entire career from their formation in the mid-80s all the way up to the final tour and the aftermath of Gord’s passing.

One of the most comprehensive music docs I've ever watched. They really covered everything, warts and all. That 4th episode is heartbreaking.
My wife and I watched it this past weekend.
I learnt some things I didn't know, saxamaphone WTF.......
It took me back to some very very good memories:
Buying the EP at Southcentre and playing it until it died while cruising in my folks Honda Civic.
Being in Yugo and rigging up a home made disc player to a PRC77 battery and speakers and blasting Fully Completely on repeat that tour. Our Unimog had the best sound system in UNPROFOR.
My wife convincing me to buy last minute tickets to their final show at The Dome and crying when they played my dead buddy's favourite hip song.

Up to Here finally released tonight, no doubt purposefully timed shortly after their documentary.
Some incredible cuts. A bunch of new remasters, 14 song live set from Misty Moon, and ten demos from 1988. Pretty incredible few months with the documentary and this album for Hip fans again.
