maybe, but that still isn't enough for boedker imo... and you want some flexibity going into the season; being hard against the cap is not a wise idea

We will put Smid on ltir, so that will clear an extra 3.5 if we need it.

yeah, but not quite as cut and dry as that...
LTIR provides additional monies that we can go over the cap by - from capfriendly:
Basic Formula ExampleThe league upper limit is $69M. A team has an averaged club salary of $68M and a player with a cap hit of $5M becomes injured and the team places him on LTIR. The team is now permitted to spend up to a new limit of $72M: - Cap hit of LTIR player is $5M
- Amount of cap space available to team = $69M - $68M = $1M
- Amount team can exceed the cap = $5M - $1M = $4M
- New limit = $68M + $4M = $72M
means us going over the cap with not a lot of flexibity moving into the next year when smid is off the payroll.
not a big fan of additional signings that aren't slam dunks like a hudler or Boedker if its going to hamper you long term

Look at what just happened to Mason Raymond. He got bought out. If you keep that in mind you will probably get a very good idea of what Stajan's value probably is right now because I think Stajan is in approximately the same territory value wise.
